I am almost through and find it the most fasinating and helpful book for Feminist. You give examples from all areas of women's lives. I've been selling it to eveyrone I know as it will help men as well as men. FYI: it was recommended to me by a 23 year old male graduate student who wanted to be aware of his prejudices. Thought provoking and surprising. The heart attack example was shocking. Add race and disability to the mix and now you’re talking. However I would say she has her own bias which is to trivialise the spaces women do dominate. These roles are equally as important as the doctor, researcher, scientist etc. Nevertheless I’ll get her book and spread the word.

Just take the snow clearing example A: you clear the roads because you need the for poblic services like fire departments, ambulances, trash collection, poblic transportation and so on B: snow clearing is normaly done before sun rise around 4-5am most child caring vacilities don't open before 6-7am. C: I don't know how it is in Sweden but snow clearing for sidewalks in the responsibility of the owner in my country. D: it's quiet sexiest to asome that woman don't have jobs they have to get to. So it had nothing to do with "man need road more" the main reason is you brining your kids to the kindergarten on foot is less important than an ambulance Beeing able to rescue a life.
And of course, what is not mentioned, is that most people who are at the bottom are men, most people on the street are men - I suspect that in many respects those people are rather invisible... or perhaps we treat them as if they are. Most people who are killed at work are men because almost all dangerous jobs and roles are taken on by men. Most people who are in prison are men - something to do with the fact that boys are much more likely to be negatively affected by being in a one parent family (I anm sure we would hear more about that here if it was the other way around). Also, the reference to the BIC Biro. The thing is a kind confidence trick ... where the company is 'phishing for fool's' (the phrase created by George Akerlof and Robert Shiller). Create a temptation for people and get them to spend money. Rather like the fruit machine that some many people pour money into. I wonder if more men end up wasting money on such things than women ? Won't mention the insidious gender bias against men there!
Sounds like good stuff to fix. Who made these policies, that send men to war, that keep men in dangerous jobs, that disconnect men from their emotions and their full communities?
The snow clearing example is so wrong, streets don't get cleared first because man, they get cleared first because ambulances and fire trucks need them to save life's, busses need them for people to get to there job, to buy groceries or getting there children to school/kindergarten. And I don't know how it is in Sweden but woman over here don't just push there trolley around to get there children to kindergarten if they don't life right next to it, they use public transport or a car. This whole snowblowing Beeing sexiest would only make sense if you had a very stereotypical (and maybe sexiest) 50s household with only one car. But how about you adopt the German model where sidewalk clearing is the responsibility of the owner thus freeing the heavy machines to clear the streets for important travic (like ambulances and busses) and keeping the sidewalks free
