    Finally ... it's happening. I grew io in newcaslte west and over the last 40 years have seen the road to limerick improve bit by bit.however this is nothing new. I found an old book for sale a while ago, it was a list of acts from 1841 by the government. The very first one was the limerick to NCW road improvement. Over 180 years later they're still at it!

    Your up-dates always appreciated. However the compulsory purchases along the route are a good example of state overreach and the use of the hammer to crack a nut.I wonder what the cost benefit analysis really said. The new railway and road could be eating each others' lunch before long.

    Thanks again Dronehawk for a much appreciated update to Limericks infrastructure.
    A lot of people dont think it will be ready for the 27 golf tournament.
    Who cares about a once off golf tournament that benefits only one village, whats important is that a badly needed piece if infrastructure is being added to our county where most countries outside the EU are seeing their infrastructure neglected by governments in favour of privatisation. And we see what that did to the UK with the HS2 abandoned.

    • @dronehawk
      @dronehawk  Місяць тому

      Agreed ,it's not about the golf Tournament, I've experienced first hand the pain of travelling through Adare several times on my way to film the Foynes Railway. Must be a total head melt for those who have to travel through it on a daily basis on their commute to and from work. That said , maybe if we have the next Ryder cup in Castlemartyr resort, they could get a bypass too !

    Is it a single track? If so why?!? You building 1 you might as well throw in 2!

    • @dronehawk
      @dronehawk  Місяць тому

      Planning was fast tracked because they are replacing like for like . To do as you suggest would involved ripping out hedgerows , totally rebuilding all the bridges and abutments and ripping out and rebuilding the N69 underpass .

  • @deetoher
    @deetoher Місяць тому +1

    Such a shame that they aren't keeping space for double track on the motorway crossings to future proof the route.

    • @dronehawk
      @dronehawk  Місяць тому

      The line will never see enough traffic to justify a double track. Anyway , that restriction was put in day one when the line was built , with the N69 underpass near Aughinish and the single width bridges .

    • @odunadhaigh
      @odunadhaigh Місяць тому

      Ireland's entire national railway network is single track other than Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Belfast (and a number of suburban sections in Dublin, Belfast and Cork). It makes little sense to worry about future proofing the Foynes line when all of the Tralee, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Waterford, Rosslare, Ballina, Westport etc lines are single track except for the parts they share with the Dublin to Cork line or with Dublin suburban lines. Even if the Foynes line were double track, then trains moving off the Foynes line to continue their journeys would find themselves on a single track railway.

    • @deetoher
      @deetoher Місяць тому +1

      @odunadhaigh I am aware of this. Any track (re)development should have an eye to over a century of use and thus future proof in appropriate space for a second track.
      Having so much of our network being single track is a national disgrace.

    • @LarryLoudini
      @LarryLoudini Місяць тому +2

      @@deetoherCompletely agree. Other than short stretches where the geography constrains the width of RoW, double track should be standard - and certainly for any intercity route

    It's no reflection whatsoever on Sisk and Sorensen. They are highly reputable contractors but you are correct: the timeline is very ambitious.
    There are three winters and two summers between now and 2027 and there's a hell of a lot to do. Not only do carriageways have to be laid but services have to be diverted, ground has to settle, connections to existing roads have to be tied in etc.
