    Thanks for showing some industrial sidings that are in use, and closeups of the track details. I'm a model railroader as well as an armchair railfan, so this kind of video gives me ideas for modelling purposes. Also, it was nice to see a lack of dead chickens. Cheers from Wisconsin.

    That reminds me of how back in the day switchers would spot box cars all through downtown alleyways during the night. I found an old photograph from that era and it is a image of First Avenue North. The businesses lined up here would be open to Market Street which is today's Second Avenue that's all touristy and such. In the there is a boxcar being unloaded into a Market Street business. Awesome video you are the Railroad Archeologist!

    OLNX reporting marks belong to the Olin Corporation. This is what comes up for Olin Corporation when you do a Google Search: Olin Corporation is a global manufacturer and distributor of chemical products and a leading U.S. manufacturer of ammunition. The 1791 placard indicates that the contents of the tank car is a hydrochloride solution. There is an acid in the tank car; probably hydrochloric acid. Black placards indicate an acid is in the container. Great video of active CSX industrial spurs. As you were documenting the white tank cars, I noticed the word "Seaboard" on the trailer at the trucking dock. My first thought was about the Seaboard Air Line. However, on closer examination, there is the word "Marine" beneath to word "Seabound". I was thinking the trailer might have something to do with Family Lines; but no such luck. Thank you for documenting these active industrial spurs and for sharing this video with us!

    Just an FYI, that HazMat placard translates to mean that that tanker is hauling either a hypochlorite solution or sodium hypochlorite (aka liquid chlorine, the same stuff that’s used in some swimming pools). Corrosive is right-that stuff will do some damage in its concentrated form. I was a lifeguard for five years and a pool manager for two, so I’ve got plenty of memories of having to work with it. And thanks to having parents who are retired chemists and going through HazMat Ops training at the firehouse, I’ve got a healthy respect for those placards! Great catch and stay safe, Roly!

  • @ascendeddoge6080
    @ascendeddoge6080 3 роки тому +1

    It is unfortunately rare to see all the tracks on industry spurs like this active -- usually at least one of the tracks is unused or outright abandoned. Too many of these spurs are completely abandoned. It doesn't help that CSX shuns these 'smaller customers', since they want unit trains, intermodal, chemicals and autoracks. When the rock pit at Krome Ave is used up, the line south of Oleander Jct. will likely be abandoned, leaving only the line west of Oleander to about where NW 147 Ave would be. These rock pits, along with those served by the FEC branch along Okeechobee Rd, are larger and will last a lot longer than the Krome pit. SFRTA should take over what is already abandoned south of Sterling wye, since CSX has forfeited this line anyway and doesn't deserve compensation for it. SFRTA also should be required to pay only fair value for the right of way from Sterling to Oleander, since this line's future is not clear. The spur from Sterling to Krome should be thrown in as well, and could serve Miami Executive Airport. SFRTA has been talking for a long time about wanting to acquire the line west of Oleander, but never wanted the line to Homestead. CSX has always forced the inclusion of this line as part of the deal and wanted much more than what the state was willing to pay, which was about 110 million for the east west track parallel to SR 836 only. I wish there was some way for SFRTA to get Watco or Genesee and Wyoming to form a short line to handle freight along its tracks. Service would improve overnight and business would increase. They also would be willing to work with FEC for more freight opportunities and wouldn't shun traffic like CSX.

    • @railrol82
      @railrol82  3 роки тому

      I always wondered why that deal with Tri Rail never made it passed the proposal stage, I had a hunch it was CSX asking too much and now you confirm it was because CSX's asking price. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said about the Sterling wye and Oleander spur; also, I think Genesee and Wyoming would do a fine job here. It would be much better than the alternative. I too am sick about trails and busways! But those dang highway lobbyists are too powerful here.
