the reason you softlocked was because of the gravity, try making it anything slightly more than 0 so you can jump high enough to make the distance without the "never falling down" part
You're right! I just checked on a new file, and the option is available right from the start of the game! It's pretty funny that we have that option before we even know that Bowser Jr will join us 😂

The radius for bowser juniors activation is pretty much as big as the area you can access so it’s pretty much impossible because you can’t access any islands covered in goop
So, if you manage to get another 3 cat shines without Bowser Junior, would you be able to get the giga cat bell and fight Fury Bowser without Bowser Junior?
That's a really great question, I'll have to do some more testing! I also wonder what happens if you head to the Giga Bell without Bowser Jr even if you have less than 5 cat shines, because the game normally triggers a cutscene with Bowser Jr the first time you're there!
I think the only reason it softlocked may be cause of the mod... Can't you turn off all mods/cheats mid session? without quitting So like , use the mod to reach the cat shine then turn all mods off while the animation/cutscene for obtaining the cat shine plays (So change the gravity value in real time during gameplay)
You don’t have to to skip past Bowser Junior because the first cat shine of the game you don’t have Bowser Junior unlocked so normally you actually collecting shine without Bowser Junior

If u did a low G mod. The cutscene would probably trigger no matter where u landed. Even if u landed on top of mount mag meow if it was above water
