  • This ranks up there with some of the most fun I've ever had with a scrawlrbox, not only did i get to create some guilty pleasure art, but i got to draw on top of it and make it something completely different and new! I had so much fun and I hope you enjoy the process of this piece! Thanks to Scrawlrbox for sending me this box to share with you!

    The fact that the gel pen wasn't working smoothly for the webs actually made them look super realistic. Often times we can see part of the silk thread but not others when we are viewing a web. It replicated that! ^_^
    I loooooove the skeleton drawing so much (but also the living princess lol), very much my usual aesthetic♡

    A tip for colored pencils is to remember that they dont break easily so you can really push the limits of your colored pencil farther than you can with a normal pencil. Also i thijk it would have looked cool if you did a different pattern for each section. Think it would have looked a little more weird and twisted. Just my opinion but i like the patrern you chose
    PS: i thought that the webs looked really cool because the pen was running out and it made the webs look like well...REAL WEBS

    It’s amazing what you can do with limited supplies, Waffle! She turned out really pretty, even the little dark twist at the end @w@ also, do you have a trick to keeping your hand still while inking? When I ink my hand flies all over the place.

    • @satanx859
      @satanx859 6 років тому +8

      Well im not Waffles but, Practice makes steady! It isnt a trick! With practice comes a steady hand

    • @Palitato
      @Palitato 6 років тому +9

      This isn't always true. I have a tremor in my hand, that with no amount of practice will EVER go away. You just learn to adapt to it. Sense when the worst of the tremors are coming and adjust your lineart to suit your ability or the style the tremor forces you to have.
      I've also found that using my whole arm for certain lines instead of trying to move my wrist or hand on it's own helps a lot. The more finely I try to control something the worse the tremor gets. So moving from the elbow or shoulder results in much smoother lines- though it's hard to do details that way.

      An old calligraphy teacher gave me the advice to pull my curves, aka make sure I'm dragging the pen, and push my straight lines. The advice was originally intended for neater letters, so I don't know how well that translates to art, but you could try it!

      Those markers are water based, she uses alcohol based markers. They are both very different

      Moldy Baguette Water based markers can’t blend as easily as alcohol based markers,I see you haven’t tried either.

      Seraphina that’s literally the only thing i use is water-based markers. wanna know the brand as well? crayola calligraphy duel sided pens. i know they don’t blend. but maybe she could do a drawing that doesn’t require blending- hence what i said about trying new things.

    • @godzandheros
      @godzandheros 6 років тому +9

      Moldy Baguette the entire appeal of alcohol markers are their ability to blend which allows you to create professional looking pieces that almost look like digital works of art, but don't need to learn how to create art digitally since it is a major learning curve. Water based markers simply won't do this and eat the paper when you try to blend then and you'll end up ruining your artwork.

    Gurl you had the right idea using pink and purple to make the shadows in the skin. Some people don’t think to do that and they just try to use different shades of skin tones and it irks me. Real skin has purple-y and pink-y tones all over. It’s a huge noob mistake to not use purple and pink to shade skin. You did so goooood. It brings way more life to use different hues instead of just different shades, on absolutely anything you’re trying to add dimension to. This turned out so well.
    Also for future if you wanted more shading on the hair you could have done everything super lightly at first and darkened it up using pressure after. Just like in digital art and painting, layering is definitely your friend with colored pencils. If you start out pushing real hard you’ll ruin the tooth of the paper and it’ll stop picking up the colors you want on there and it also just comes out looking less uniform. I also strongly suggest you try using rubbing alcohol on a paintbrush to blend your colored pencils. It breaks down the wax and does basically the same thing as watercolor pencils. They also have really expensive solvents that you have to use in a room with plenty of open windows but I’ve found through trial that alcohol works basically just as well, and you can work anywhere with it and it’s extremely cheap. And it dries suuuper fast so you can work with many layers really fast whereas with watercolor pencils you have to wait ages for the water to dry. Of course different brands have different quality wax and will have different results with any attempts to blend but generally if you’re using one of the widely known high-quality art brands like Prismacolor and Staedtler and Faber-Castell you’ll have pretty good results with your blending.
    Obviously the challenge in this case was to only use supplies from the box but ya always gotta get cheaty to make them sketches and stuff anyway and using a blending liquid adds so much more to the piece that it’s worth that cheat yo. Although this piece still came out AMAZING. It just helps to eliminate the need for burnishing and smooths the color out so the tooth of the paper doesn’t show through as much (case in point, the bodice of the dress, super grainy from the tooth...).
    I know this is a really old video and you’ve probably gained a lot more knowledge about colored pencils as a medium but maybe you didn’t know some of these tips and maybe you’ll still see this comment and it’ll maybe be helpful lol.
