Sarah Ann Aboueljoud I keep in regular contact with very few of my old high school friends. Most of the high school friends of mine who I keep in contact with are actually still in high school. As far as people from my class, I keep in contact with maybe 3 or 4 people. I've made so many new friends and enjoyed so many new experiences at this point, I am not worried about the people I've left behind. It will become clear to you who you were and were not actually close to.

@Kate Moore i'm supposed to graduate this year too, but i don't know if i'll get to have a big huge party with friends family, or even celebrate together with my cousin since we celebrated our kindergarten graduation together, so i thought this year since it's our last year in i think high school that we could have celebrated together, but with coronavirus going around i don't think it's possible :'(

I guess high school is similar to college here, I'm in my 2nd and final year of college and I am 17 years old. I will then go on to university where I shall hopefully graduate when I'm 20!
When you realize this song came out during your graduation year and while some of this song applied to my life... and now with the Corona virus... really puts into perspective how much we Millennials need this "luck" in order to strive for the life where we have our own house, a well-paying job, decent food and sanity (basically the American Dream that we can't afford).
Many of us went to college on the lie that college= better life and job opportunities when really it gave us a lot of debt and made us qualified for some "entry level jobs" (and I say "some" because some entry level jobs requires a masters or 1-5 years of experience that the majority of fresh-out-of-college graduates won't have). I'm at least working in my field right now, but so many just went on to basic jobs like retail, food service, etc.
To Gen Z: If you just got out of high school, or will be soon- consider going into trades. A lot of trades are hiring, and while more physically demanding, the jobs offer no debt, better pay (considering), better futures (a lot of open positions) and the fact that you're learning a skill you can use to be your own DIY person at home, for your family, or your community by starting up your own business even.
The world is rapidly changing now, as well as college and financial opportunities. Keep your eyes open. Best of luck to you, Gen Z.

I agree with all that. If y'all highschoolers put in the work during high school, college is for you. If you coast through and don't have any idea what to do with your life, go into trade school or just work, but DO NOT go to college "just because."

Somehow as a 28-year-old working abroad and living alone, this just made me cry.
I remember listening to this song in middle school and watching their graduation speech and getting super emotional thinking about my own future graduation. I was only 11 when this song came out and now I’m 18... and today I finally graduated high school. I legit couldn’t stop sobbing, especially listening to this song. Thank you rhett and link for the beautiful memories that you helped me create along the years. :’)

Finishing up my 3rd year of living on campus. Here is some advice I have gathered for you: Live in a suite your first year, do the reading for every class and complete all work including optional work as soon as you can and bring a copy to class, never skip a class, use the gym or go for runs as much as possible, get an on campus job, plan all of your classes until graduation and keep it up to date, join groups or student government organizations, if you are not sure about something then get an answer from a staff member or teacher, study for every test as if it were cumulative, give every assignment your best effort, make 8 hours of sleep each night a personal requirement, talk to everyone you walk past, go to every career fair, do every interview you can, get a nice dress suite outfit, keep your degree related textbooks, if you are not sure about a major then see if your university has a first year college program, never settle and never dig a rut, do not risk degrading your own future over a significant other. Remind yourself that college isn't just a change of environment or just another thing you have to do. You are paying this institution a large sum of money to educate yourself in order to secure a good job after you have graduated.
A lot of Universities don't offer suite living to Freshmen, if at all.
It's hard to get enough sleep..

Yes,It's time for those big decisions like what kind of career do you want to pursue. Do you want to go to college or trade school. It gets scarier after you are out of school. If you haven't gotten a job yet, find something. You want to build a solid work history so that, when you are older, it will be easier to land a good position.
I saw this song like a week after I graduated and started crying and laughing. I'm so happy that there's a college in my town and I don't have to move. I couldn't afford it anyways, so I still have non-hotpocket-food and clean laundry. So it's nice. Even though I miss the magical ATM-Machine ;)

I’ve been watching GMM for a while now but I discovered this song with the video recently. I’m a part of the Class of 2020 and it’s been tough realizing that some of us won’t have a proper graduation because of the pandemic. I never would’ve thought that I may not graduate from high school. But thank you Rhett and Link for this song and your videos, they’ve really helped me through this.
I remember watching this video back in September. Back then, I was still excited about being a senior and was anxious to graduate. Now that commencement is 5 days away, I'm not as excited as I thought I would be. I'm an emotional mess. There are so many things I will never do again, faces I will never see again, and my life as I know it is disappearing. Yikes.
Right there with you buddy, I just had my graduation ceremony 4 days ago (granted I won't be technically graduated for another week or 2 but still) and I, along with quite literally every other person in my graduating class that I asked were all not looking forward to grad rather than looking forward to it, but back in ninth and tenth grades grad seemed like the best thing we would ever experience.
Everyone feels a little scared for graduating (even if they don't say so) and I promise it isn't as bad as you're thinking! The people who mean something to you will still be there, and if you choose to go to college it's actually pretty fucking rad. So chin up seniors, everything is going to be ok! ;D

Yeah I agree with Jguy365, I am now finishing my first year of university, only one more day of classes, and then exams, and I gotta say it wasn't horrible!...although I can't say its been entirely smooth sailing, because there have been a few problems that have arisen as a result of being done high school, such as money is now a thing that I need, and I'm actually going to have to get a summer job this year lol and school decided to go from a 2 difficulty to a 10 difficulty in the span of a year so there has been a lot of stress involved in school this year, stress that I never really experienced in high school, and a few other things here and there, but over all I survived, now just gotta get through these exams and I'll be able to enjoy a nice 4 month long summer, which is a major advantage compared to my 2 month long summers in high school!
