OH MY!!!!!!! GOD being lifted up at a football game and what a song to be honoring Him with. All I've ever heard at football games were songs from bands like: Green Day, Chicago, Journey etc. Awsome, Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not just about making lines and boxes. It's all about music in motion. When SU does their precision drills, they are not just marching, they are creating a mental picture of what music is really all about. Feeling, emotion, and passion is what SU is drawing on that field. The truth is SU is a little smaller than most HBCU marching bands. But what they lack in size. They make it up with their powerful sound and excellent music selections.
Thank you!!! It's about time somebody gave SU some kind of credit without hatin. Both version I thought was good. It's just that SU caught the holy ghost, and played with some intensity. CAN I GET A AMEN!!!
ok...listen to da dynamics, n soun quality of fam's Praise is what i do....n SU's.....wuts da diff?...fam arrangement is nice...n u can tell da soun quality of fams music is dat dey r puttin dur ALL into da music!!!
This version is not horrible. The only thing different about FAMU's version is that they had one of their band members singing. They both did a good job.
So they're exciting lines and boxes... ok. But FAMU made a sail boat that moved across the field with the sail going up while playing 'Rock The Boat", and they made a Chevy with spinning rims (yes they were 'chrome' and 'spinning') while playing 'I'm Riding Spinners'. Now to me, that's music in motion... but I may be wrong. ;-)
They could add more to their woodwind section. But that would go against the code. You see SU is a brass band. They was designed to be a brass band, and they forever will be a brass band. At SU, brass represents power and intensity. I believe a brass band is a man's band, and SU is DA MAN!!!
That really was a good performance. I thought FAMU and SU did a good job, but TnSU version was not just a performance for the audience. They was playing that one for the Lord himself. And the sax solo was perfect.
When you are marching with a band with half of the school population. You should be able to make those kinds of things on the field. I didn't never say FAMU wasn't good. I just feel like people should give SU the credit they deserve. I ain't even gonna lie. That is some incredible shit you just said. I'm pretty sure if SU had the same amount of band members they probably would come up with the same ideas. But then again it probably would be better.
Yeah, they probably could have phrase a little better, and I agree about the 1-2 trumpet players sticking out...but I was still getting off to the song. I can only imagine sitting across the field from them while they were playing that, especially the "blow" part - I be sho 'nuff getting my praise on. ooverall, I thought a good job.
You have a point and I understand that SU can sometimes be a little out of tune. I think FAMU really does have a good balanced sound. But when it comes to marching and precision drills on the field. SU got that one hands down. FAMU is too large for their own good on the field. But I think the two bands are the most classful bands in HBCU history.
There is a time and place for capping notes, and tgis isn't it. Pretty Good performance tho. I give a slight edge to FAMU with Ten. St. a close second.
Are you kidding me? This song isn't meant to be blasted on it's an inspirational song, you know like a concert selection that has color (woodwinds) they play an important key in the song, I didn't hear it here yes it was a good performance don't get me wrong but it's not always about who can play the loudest, or who can scream the most, put a little color in the song and see how it sounds. But I do love "Fly like a bird" my fav SU song.
This was ok ... a band should be able to keep good sound quality when playing loud and soft. I can tell that, that season SU is not used to playing softer songs b/c of the quality. Everything doesnt need to be loud.
A band is about competition true, not insults. No band member should down another band. It's rude. Give constructive criticism but not to the point where it's insulting. This goes to every band member: If you think your band is better than any other band dnt type about it. Show us whats the name of your band??? My Band is SC State I'm a trumpet player. Look us up and tell me what you think. Plz no insults dnt have tyme for nonsense.
lmao, 'half the school population'! Got to admit, that was funny. But FAMU is the largest HBCU in the nation based off of its main campus. SU is the largest if you include SUNO. So both schools should have a large band, and SU could do that easily if they only added woodwinds. 30 trumpets with 2 clarinets, 1 flute, and 1 piccolo just ain't right. lol.
I think 04 SU was made just to blow. They don't have a nice concert sound. The only way I can describe it is jagged. Its like there's a rough edge on their sound. At least they don't sound like that now.
Since SU is suppose to be the TOP band and all and always talking about how people steal songs from them and mess. WOuldnt this count as them taking a song from FAMU?
why ya'll goin back n forth about who did better they are 2 different bands-they both did good so why are we arguin and cussin over who played a GOSPEL SONG better? Its supposed 2 be glorifying GOD and glorifying Him not YOURSELVES by ya'll doin that he isn't pleased with either band cuz we all kno He is a jealous God and whenu argue over who did what better and start hating the glory shifts to ya'll instead of Him which was the sole purpose in playin this song in the first place-right?
Too large?? FAMU is small compared to D1 schools. The truth is most HBCU bands is waaaay too small. No lie, my high school band (which was by no means as entertaining) was SU's size. And drill?? If making boxes and lines is what you want, cool go SU. But if you want Jordan shooting a three? FAMU baby.
The entire band was singing and the instrumentation was also better. That goes towards the balanced sound FAMU has, versus all brass. Listen to SU starting around the 1:12 mark... come on now.
ok, we'll be looking for you; do your best and praise HIM on the cymbals, yea, even the high sounding cymbals..but dont wait til 2010 to clean up your language..perversion & praise dont mix
Dont even come out with "famu band memebers Have no respect" because alot more people wanted to say what I said but I was the only one that step up. But i am gonna apologize for cursing because this is a church song....but i aint gonna apologize for saying the fact that FAMU is better!!! And if you want to talk about respect then why dont you talk about it with southern who playing such a beautiful song so horribly bad!!!
With all those out of tune sounds a folks hanging over... and of all bands to mention he brings FAMU and UAPB in this.. bands KNOWN fo being musical... WOW.....
tsu's arrangement is too many times better than this one. what was su thinking when they played this, they shoulda just played can you feel it or at least played somethin simpler, not a song with chords and and a melody.
Southern Arrangement sounds better to me than FAMU I would hope that many of you would quit your part time jobs called "Hating"!!!!!Because I heard FAMU and I wanted to throwup!!!!!
OH MY!!!!!!! GOD being lifted up at a football game and what a song to be honoring Him with. All I've ever heard at football games were songs from bands like: Green Day, Chicago, Journey etc. Awsome, Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was the loudest gospel song when I was in High School, then we played it! 2004!
Awesome! Love the song... and they sound terrific.
I like the way it sounds,I don't even go to the college yet but plan to attend next year and I think it sounds good and like the original song.
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH
Your right Gaifam....All imma say is God bless Southern. Hope fully this blessing can improve yall music!!! Much love!!
I like that they played it this song. At football games every just expects fast, loud, dancing music, but this was really together and well played.
Thats so great. I wish more high schools would play songs like that before the game.
It's not just about making lines and boxes. It's all about music in motion. That's the best comment about marching bands since I have been on youtube. Everybody is always arguing who is better.
I must admit, this is one of the nicer ballards I've hear SU play in all my years of hearing them.
Damn i remember this night it was a good battle between them and Bama St..
Thank you!!! It's about time somebody gave SU some kind of credit without hatin. Both version I thought was good. It's just that SU caught the holy ghost, and played with some intensity. CAN I GET A AMEN!!!
OMGGG....It sounds sooo good....SSSSS...UUUUUUU!
*CRIES* Man...I love my state!
ilove dis ,, my high school band played this
they do overblow a little, but the spirit go hold of me and i couldn't even tell
i like how smooth it is
GOD BLESS YOU!!!
TSU's arrangements has character. But, SU you did you thing too! Good job!
Amennnnn !

I like Dat Arrangement.

AMEN!!!
on most slower songz southern kill b killin like on dis
If I lost a football game, and heard this song, I would feel a little bit better.
So they're exciting lines and boxes... ok. @mghs08 Sweetie it's been a year seriously let it go.
You can't be reppin' SU that hard after this performance. Look to the right and click on FAMU's. College vs High School.
SSSSSSSSSSU! S-S-S-S-U! Makes me proud!
This was nice but like they said trumpets are sticking out but overall it was nice
U right. SU is a brass band. Yall some powerful ass niggas 4 real. A brass band is a man's band.
you have to ask the almighty Tapemaster if he has it loll

Better than any band any where else and I go to G-Tech and thats not in the swac. Even better than USC and I was bron and raised in Compton.
There is a time and place for capping notes, and tgis isn't it. Pretty Good performance tho. I give a slight edge to FAMU with Ten. St. a close second.

cursin in the presence of gospel hehe

deceased person. song at funeral

Very nice SU
(FAMU GRAD)
Well if SU wants to forever sound like an old Chevy with four 12"s in the trunk... lol. I'll go with the complete Bose car audio system.
lmao, 'half the school population'! Got to admit, that was funny. But FAMU is the largest HBCU in the nation based off of its main campus. SU is the largest if you include SUNO. sad to say it, but they don't phrase like they should. it just happens.
I think 04 SU was made just to blow. They don't have a nice concert sound. The only way I can describe it is jagged. Its like there's a rough edge on their sound. At least they don't sound like that now.
I like FAM's version but it doesnt have as much power as SU's
Since SU is suppose to be the TOP band and all and always talking about how people steal songs from them and mess. WOuldnt this count as them taking a song from FAMU?

lol I'm sorry but half the time, that just isn't true.
lmao

i can't stand to listen to this song
ok, we'll be looking for you; do your best and praise HIM on the cymbals, yea, even the high sounding cymbals..but dont wait til 2010 to clean up your language..perversion & praise dont mix
Then, that would make SU....well... Bcc.
......and, that ain't happen'n.
"S"

i know thats right the man sounds so bad my choir wanted to sing this song i said no way.
With all those out of tune sounds a folks hanging over... and of all bands to mention he brings FAMU and UAPB in this.. bands KNOWN fo being musical... WOW.....
this is a very ignorant comment.
tsu's arrangement is too many times better than this one. what was su thinking when they played this, they shoulda just played can you feel it or at least played somethin simpler, not a song with chords and and a melody.
yall blasting...but it was still good. but it was not a song to be blasted! TSU had way more character and the arrangement was better.
Southern Arrangement sounds better to me than FAMU I would hope that many of you would quit your part time jobs called "Hating"!!!!!Because I heard FAMU and I wanted to throwup!!!!!
Yeah you can get into any college spelling like that LMAO! Sounds nice but FAMU's better!
Because Famu band members and friends have no discipline or respect.......
god liked fams better
LOL! This version is horrible.
Horrible
