this is definitely a beauty - you did a great job explaining the subtle upgrades and their impacts. I have the classic 000-15M and I'm sure it's super similar, but this a fantastic guitar too. Where this will get people most outside of the bracing is the true short scale length (the 000-15 is actual an OM) and the 1" 3/4 nut width with wider spacing. I think that's the thing that will attract people to this that maybe don't like those things in the 000-15M so there is enough difference. Still seems like a bit high in price, but I like that you actually get a case unlike the 15 series. I think all Martin USAs should still be coming with a case.
Love the sound of mahogany guitars. Thanks Joe! A little hard to tell over UA-cam but if the Martin 000-17 sounds as good or better than the Martin 15-SM I’m all in.
Me too, the grain is noticeably higher end than the past several years. The standard series almost look like sinker mahogany now, as if it's bigger older logs compressing the cells.
Thanks, that was a comprehensive explanation of the updates, the purpose and the outcomes. I have a 00015m and was wondering what the differences were. I am a devoted hog fan and this Martin 00017 release is very exciting. It sounds a lot richer and deeper compared to the 00015- gotta check them out.
Same! Die hard fan.. really thought I was set with my 00015m but I may have to get one of these. It's incredible how open and crisp they sound and how bassy the low end is - not nearly the amount of compression people normally dog on hog for.
00017 vs 00015m..🙏

If it just sounds as good as you say, the SM is only $2,000. I own one and it's hard to justify spending more on a great guitar that the SM is.
I wonder what Mohagany Martin is sourcing for their guitars.

Very cool.

Dovetail neck joint on the new 17 series?!
Does this mean we can get jet black ebony fretboards again or is Martin consider that a "custom shop" upcharge feature now? HAHAHAHA
