"think of these episodes as chakotay in the later seasons" damn that roast came our of nowhere.
Ellie's on fire with this one!
Or Harry for the full show.
"Alice" is basically "Christine" in space
If you're going to lift a story idea? may as well make it a good one
That's exactly what I thought about it!
Since I am a Boomer and read Carrie before the movie came out.
I read them all voraciously, when I got to Cujo and Christine, I gave up reading Steven King Books for some time. I Think Misery is the next Novel I bothered reading (GREAT movie adaptation)
I've always enjoyed that one, and haven't forgotten it.
Right down to trying to asphyxiate Belanna
Harry Kim the most disrespected character on Voyager.
It was a crime that he spent the entire show as an ensign. He was a part of Janeway’s senior staff, at the very least she could have promoted him to lieutenant junior grade.
I mean even worse how the producers told him: “someone had to be the ensign.” And how he didn’t get to direct any episodes because he made an off handed comment about having to always be the ensign.”
He did entomb the entire ship on a planet of ice.
They turned him into a ‘momma’s boy’ and the irony was in the final season in which he is talking to his parents, his mom was pushy and annoying as hell. Seven noticed it too, and probably cut off the transmission early😂😂
@@batgurrl right and it had been established in the first season it was a close family. By the time communication happened between Voyager and Earth. She was a complete helicopter parent.
"Gravity" and "Natural Law" are actually great....
agreed.... i find them real memorable. same with Alice really...
I loved "Gravity". Lori Petty was so good.
gravity is one of my favorite episodes
I remember the Alice episode fondly, because it's such an obvious love letter to Stephen King's Christine.
Genau
Agreed! OTOH, Fairhaven and Spirit Folk I am still trying to forget. 🤢
Nightingale, Random Thoughts, Muse, Non-Sequitur, Gravity and Unforgettable are all personal favourites of mine.
I will never forgive TrekCulture for this most heinous list!
I do not hate the ones you listed, but Gravity is a top notch episode. At the end when they got to Voyager, he ‘mind melded her’ she smiled and said ‘ I understand’ and as she was beaming out, the reluctantly let each other go
Not big on random thoughts but yeah this list is just wrong and did she say that fairhaven is a great episode??! Maybe there's a gender disparity going on here. P.s. I rematch muse, unforgettable and gravity alot
Random Thoughts is one of my favorites. Who doesn't love a mind meld. I would watch that again.
Remember, she did say that this was in no way a list of bad episodes, just episodes that were largely overlooked. A mostly due to being surrounded by bigger, more memorable episodes. Don't worry, you're still allowed to love these episodes. :)
@@Adam-mg4zc lol, the perma-optimjst 😅
Speaking as someone who mostly watched Voyager only casually during its original run, I found Muse to be one of the most memorable episodes. In particular I still think back to the description of Tuvok's character (and Vulcan stoicism in general) anytime people discuss Vulcan emotions.
Well, they can't all be gems, I guess...
Still my favourite ST series.
I've got this theory about 'Unforgettable' is that it's a cynical meta-commentary on the existence of romance episodes in Star Trek. Those of us watching the episode are only along for the ride, we are intellectually aware that the love is going nowhere, and the in-universe characters largely forget about the person they loved. Plus it was one of the *very* few times when Neelix was not a complete shitehead; he gave Chakotay some really good advice in a way that I wished had been the ground state for the character.
That's a really cool idea - even if you're wrong I'm retconning you to be right!
I really loved Muse. While I agree with most of the episodes on this list, it was good to see Tony Amendola cross over from Stargate to have a Star Trek guest appearance. Not to mention, it has a lot of stakes showing how B'Ellana handles a prime Directive nightmare after a few seasons of character development since the season 2 episode "Prototype." It had shown how much she has grown since then.
It is also very attractive for any fan who has studied either theater or classics; the competing arguments between the characters about the elements of a great play are straight out of Aristotle.
Wow, this was a list of many of my favorite Voyager episodes. I feel like there were way more forgettable ones!
Me too, I don't know who compiled this list???? Why all the hate to episodes with Harry in :(
My fav Star Trek ❤
I wish I could forget Threshold 😢
The first like 3/4 of Threshold was good and if it had been a two parter it would’ve been good in the eyes of more people I feel.
I say that because the episode does a good job of telling the story of what’s going on with Tom and his mutation process.
But then toward the end, for no particular reason he abducts Janeway, activates the drive, the crew tracks down a shuttle that can be literally anywhere but we aren’t told how they did it, Tom and Janeway are just cured and don’t need therapy. They’re good and healthy and don’t need help.
That I feel deep down is what gives Threshold a bad reputation. It just. Ends.
There’s a UA-cam video that turned Threshold into the style of a Star Trek TAS episode, and it surprisingly works.
One does simply put Harry Him in the thumbnail of a forgettable episode, cause 2x05 "Non Sequitur" was quite enjoyable ☺
Harry has to choose between a cushy job at SCE, swift promotion to lieutenant, a gorgeous fiancee, and a barista who knows how he likes his coffee... or years as an ensign aboard a tin can in space, several disastrous attempts at romance, and Neelix's cooking.
What was he thinking?!
“Alice” is essentially Stephen King’s “Christine”.
Ripoff or homage? 🤔
homoff
Why not both??
Now that one ended in a nice way.
Random thoughts and natural law are two one episodes I regularly go back to. And while I'm not a fan, Gravity is memorable with Lori Petty in it! Definitely not forgettable!
Right?! I wish she'd be cast in more Sci-Fi - she's like nobody else!
Strangely, since Voyager was important to me growing up, I remembered every one of these episodes just by the title.
Calling it now... i remember them all.. 😁
Non Sequitur is actually one of my favorite episodes of season 2. I saw it when it first aired, and many times afterwards. It's one of the better Harry Kim episodes.
It would have been far better if there had actually been signs that he was conflicted. He had escaped a nightmare scenario and wound up in a place where he was properly appreciated, and loved as well. So shouldn't he at least want to stay there?
I remember fondly Unforgettable. Sure it doesn't change anything (does any bottle ship actually do?) but its story is still a tragic loss.
Bottle episode, not bottle ship.
@@chefdean7257 yeah... I did an oopsie there. I totally meant Bottle Episode there
@@CathrineMacNiel No worries, ya can always edit it, I've got your back. If ya do so, I'll delete my comments and none will be the wiser.
Friendship 1, with the unceremonious end of Joe Kerry, not seen for several seasons, was a forgettable slap in the face.
Unforgettable.
Should’ve seen that coming.
I disagree about much of this. Gravity is a fan favorite of actual fans. Season seven is full of entirely too many episodes about The Doctor and the season 7 episode Shattered, a Chakotay episode considered the best in the final season besides endgame. Bride of Chaotica is a HUGE fan favorite. I agree about half of these, like Alice is a stinker
I really enjoyed Gravity it's one of my "go too" episodes
I remember really liking Muse when I watched in a few years ago.
I personally like Alice, Random Thoughts, Unforgettable, & Non-Sequitur.
Strange, I remember "Muse" as one of the better episodes and had completely forgotten "Live Fast and Prosper" until it was mentioned here.
Weirdly, I still think about "Random Thoughts" and "Emanations' episodes now and then, so not forgettable for me :)
Just because they're not the greatest, it's a bit unfair to call them forgettable. Like that episode with... erm...
And that one with what's-her-name.
Oh, and that one with Picard... or maybe... Archer?
And the alien!..... or was it the anomaly? Well at least I'm pretty sure it had space!..... right?
@@robertbeste
Yeah, that's the one. (I think?)
I love that episode!
301K. Congratulations!🎉🍾🎆
You know, I genuinely had forgotten about Nightingale, one of those that I guess never really stuck in my mind, I must have fallen asleep during that one... :P
Kim's one chance, as captain.
Janeway: I don't remember these missions.
Tuvok: I surmise your memories have been tampered with, Captain.
Now it's only fair that you do this for every trek series.
Random Thoughts is one of the most memorable episodes in all of Star Trek, IMHO.
Wow. This is the first time I disagreed with a whole list. I didn't remember titles-because I'm bad at that with all TV series-but I remembered all of these episodes and enjoyed almost of all of them.
Ironically, several of these "most forgettable" episodes are, for me, some of the MOST memorable. I still need to finish watching the series, though... I had never seen it before and I'm only towards the end of Season 5.
I liked Non Sequeter... I still wonder what the hell happened with Kim's fiancé.
Elogium is forgettable though. While threshold was fun (with hindsight it could have been used as a Final to get the crew home, minus the de-evolution part). I liked unforgettable (the ending sucked) and Gravity too; any Captain Proton episode is a downer for me.
If Nightingale was a season 5 episode that lead to character development it might have been an A tier episode.
Funny enough one of the most forgettable Voyage episodes imo is Unforgettable.
"Muse" was funny in that they included a plot twist that would have been pretty effective in the actual universe! Seven of Nine actually being the Borg Queen would have been great!
I have often wondered if they were inspired by unused plot ideas for the actual show. Like, maybe when they first introduced Seven’s character, they toyed with the idea that she would later be revealed to be the / a Borg Queen.
@Pseudonym10 there is a book whose story deals with the changing face of the Birg Queen very similarly to how bees and other insects do it. Insects have a special royal jelly that turns an otherwise normal bee larva into a queen bee. In the book, there was a similar royal protocol that gets uploaded into a drone and makes her the queen. It shows that the Borg Queen was so intent on getting 7 back because she had been groomed to be the next Queen.
Regardless of what you think of Natural Law, if we get ST:Legacy, I expect that blanket to be in Seven's quarters.
"Of course, that's just my opinion," she said after spending the entire video declaring what "viewers" found memorable or uninteresting.
"Sacred Ground" S03E07 should have been high on this list because I couldn't recall this episode before the list passed without it. I had to look this up because I only had a vague memory of it which aired between two episodes called "Remember" (oh the irony) and "Futures End part 1". I knew from the thumbnail that "Unforgettable" would be number one. Other episodes I can't remember and might have been better fit on the list include
"Projections" S02E03 The Doc plays a holo novel that is never referred to again,
"Resistance' S02E12 Voyager crew gets way too involved in a siege,
"The Chute" S03E03 Tom and Harry imprisoned where the only way in is a chute,
"Once upon a Time" S05E05 Naomi plays a holo novel (main storyline) while her mom is in trouble on an away mission,
"11;59" S05E23 Y2K episode about a Janway ancestor,
"Barge of the Dead" S06E03 B'Elannas mothers place in the Klingon afterlife becomes an issue.
I found "Unforgettable" very memorable. One of my faves. There was a season 4 episode - Nemesis (I had to look it up) which would have been completely forgotten by me were it not for the silly language used by the aliens Chakotay was stuck with ("As long as you're with us, you do my tellings. Fathom?")
Nightingale is memorable for me because it assassinated two characters:
1. When Harry mentioned to Janeway that he was still an ensign after 7 years, she was accusing and derisive. The warm and compassionate captain I knew did not treat people like that.
2. Harry, despite knowing only exemplary command chops from Janeway, Tuvok, and Chakotay, forgot everything they did.
It's also memorable because the showrunners actively rubbed the viewer's noses in the fact that no matter how much they complained, Harry was staying an ensign, and if they didn't like it, they could piss off. Keeping Harry at ensign was obviously a big deal to them, far beyond a stupid and unfunny joke.
The fact of the matter is two-fold.
1) she can't promote everyone. With no transfers on or off the ship, she has to maintain a chain of command. She couldn't promote everyone to Commander, some had to stay ensign, Lt JG, etc.
2) What would have really changed for Harry? Other than an acknowledgement of his usefulness, which you could argue was implied by his being third shift commander at times, nothing would have changed. He'd still be Operations Officer, there is no pay increase. What does the promotion really get for him?
@@QBCPerdition It prevents him from being derided as the Forever Ensign for the last 30 years.
This was a deliberate and carefully calculated decision by the producers, intended to humiliate the actor, and it was a big deal to them. Otherwise, when the viewers complained about Tom getting promoted and Harry not, the producers would have simply accommodated them. Probably at the end of "Nightingale".
I loved Alice. As others have stated, it's very "Stephen King." I also enjoyed "Random Thoughts." It reminded me of "Tek War", written by William Shatner.
hey i like voyager.
I liked the Fairhaven episode. Thanks for the smackdown ellie:( .
As this was my Star Trek as a mid to late 90s star trek kid, I love all these episodes and thanks to Paramount + and Pluto tv, I've seen all these episodes multiple times and therefore will never forget them.
I knew it was coming JUST so you could make fun of the title. I do remember 'Emanations', though, because at the time it struck me as a waste of an idea with so much potential.
Non Sequitur is one of my favorites!
The only thing I remember about "Bride of Chaotica" is that it's in a different style. But most of this episodes I remember quite well, especially the ones with Harry Kim.
I always get Alice mixed up with the "racing episode" .
I found Alice and Alter Ego interesting. They both had the guest actress with and without heavy makeup prosthetics. It reminds me of ST main characters in alien disguises.
All voyager episodes were better than every discovery episode.
I also forgot about "Unforgettable". The later Chakotay seasons should've been known as "The times Robert Beltran tried to get fired from the show by demanding a huge salary increase, but was pissed when he got the raise and wound up stuck on the show" 😂.
Yeah, I *think* TrekCulture is starting to struggle to come up with videos.

"Gravity" is actually a personal favorite of mine. Maybe it helps that I saw it out of sequence? Also, I found Laurie Petty a breath of fresh air.
I remember all the episodes on this list.
I loved "Muse".
ABSOLUTELY! I agree on every single one. A lot of these I skip when rewatching. HOnestly when you've seen some of these three times, You're done.
Star Trek Voyager is the best to watch for a campy good romp. I will champion Voyager. (DS9 has the best story and characters nut I love my Voyager. Flaws and all.) And I remember every single one of these, ty. lol
Unforgettable is one of my favorite episodes. I rewatch it every few years.
I loved Muse!
Ninety percent of Voyagers episodes end with no consequences. No matter how much damage the ship takes or how many crew members are lost, the next episode begins with everything fine.
Thanks to Rick Berman. The writers actually wanted a more serialized storytelling where actions have their consequences in a longer term, but Berman was fixated on the old-style concept of standalone, problem-of-the-week episodes. His core philosophy was "always play it safe, never take too many chances".
Voyager is partly why BSG was good
@@danielrudolf5441 Personally, I prefer the "problem of the week" style of series and get 26 episodes rather than one overarching story for a season of only 10 episodes. For me, having 20-25 stories is better than one, even if the one story is more detailed. I could randomly re-watch any of those episodes of TNG or Voyager and have a full story wrapped up in less than an hour. I don't have to watch them in order. I still watch and enjoy modern Trek, it's just not the same or as convenient.
I like this about it.
Actually, unforgettable is one of the most memorable voyager episodes for me. I remember it as being Bittersweet . The rediscovery of lost love. His doomed attempt to not lose love again. The writing down of the story on paper, so the memory of that love will never fade. Yes, I remember very well
So basically, "10 Star Trek: Voyager Episodes".
I've seen the entire run at least three times and I could tell you the synopsis of maybe three episodes. And I'm not so sure about the third.
Half on your list are personal favorites. Ensign Kim, Paris, and Chakotay were favorite characters. I normally favor the episodes that go against the grain of the whole. "Alice", "Gravity", and "Alter Ego" were enjoyable because of the common thread of obsession and love. "Nightengale" was Kim's first command in spite of his errors in judgement. He was a trusting soul but sometimes it's a fault, especially when in a leadership role.
I actually liked the "Muse" episode
Gravity is one of my favorites - Very surprised to it on this list.
Whenever I stream Voyager, I always forget the episode called The Chute exists xD and I still can’t summarized it to this day if someone asked me to.
I remembered and really liked every one of these episodes, although I've always thought Voyager was the best series of that era, I love every star trek series old and new but of all the 24th century shows, I realize I am in the minority when I say Voyager was my favorite followed by DS9 but The Next Generation is also very close to my heart as it was the first of Star Trek I've ever seen as I watched it on Television from day one but even still I very fondly remember every Voyager and DS9 episodes from every season whereas there are quite a bit more episodes from TNG that I have forgotten way more than the others and I tend to re-watch Voyager and DS9 much more than any other Star Trek shows from the late 80s through the 90s one into the early 2000s and I also loved every episode of Enterprise as well more than TNG believe it or not but that being said I do like and enjoy all of Star Trek old and new and really haven't seen any episodes or movies that I didn't like with Star Trek 5 at the bottom of my best of list but even with that movie at the bottom I still did enjoy it just not as much as any of the others. I guess I am just a very devoted fan of the franchise as a whole, even still my most favorite Sci-Fi show is still Stargate SG-1 but love the videos, I don't leave comments often because I tend to ramble whe I do but anyway. Keep the fantastic videos coming
When are we gonna get the top ten episodes of voyager and Enterprise we haven't got them yet come on trekculture
Time and Again deserves an honourable mention
What’s interesting about the episodes in this video is… wait. What episodes are we talking about? I don’t remember.
10:23 - Ironically the #5 pick is one of my favorite episodes and why I unlocked the "Yellowstone Class Runabout" in STO
I like forgettable episodes! When I do a rewatch, it's like watching a new episode 😜
"Worst Case Scenario" feels underrated.
So sad to see Gravity on this list! Always loved it… it’s atmospheric, has a cool sci-fi concept and I absolutely love Lori Petty’s performance.
Unforgettable, on the other hand, is right where it needs to be…possibly the only other episode I like less is The Fight, buts it’s a close toss-up.
I question the memory of the people who wrote this because 3 episodes in I'd say they were all pretty memorable.
I actually think about Non Sequitur a lot. I think I watched it a lot because it just happened to always be the episode that was on when I went to watch an episode of Voyager.
I'm sure there are others, but I have forgotten them.
Muse is one of my favorites.
You forgot to mention all the other episodes of Voyager.
Harry Kim is my favorite character so I enjoyed every time he was the focus.
I remember Gravity well, but only because Lori Petty was Tank Girl in the cult classic movie of the same name.
Overall I agree, but “Gravity” is one of my favorites.
I honestly can't remember if there's something that should have been here.
It's sad that so many of these are Harry Kim stories.
Isn’t it sad that half this list is Harry Kim and none of it was Kez and Kez the one that got rid of
they kept kim cause garrett ended up on People's 50 beautiful people list
@@thecunninlynguist I know just saying they choose wrong
@@thecunninlynguistthat is an often repeated rumor, but isn't entirely accurate. They knew they were going to add 7 of 9 and felt the crew would be too large, so they discussed who they could get rid of. Harry was mentioned, along with a few others, but Jennifer Lien wanted out and her behavior had been getting erratic, so she was the only person truly considered. And based on how tragic her life has been, it was the right choice for the show.
"Muse" had John Schuck (the Klingon Ambassador from Star Trek IV and Vi, as well as Draal on Babylon 5) and Tony Amendola (Master Bra'Tac from Stargate SG-1), both amazing actors, and squandered them!
"Muse" had a chance to be the "ember Island players" of late season Voyager- it was right on the cusp of being incredibly funny and self-aware but I feel like they didn't know how to write an ending to the episode and it sputtered out. Great setup, but such a disappointment
I liked Random thoughts in the beginning. But when it became a Tuvok story, it lost me
Is it bad I knew exactly which episode the thumbnail on a video about "the most forgettable episodes" is from?
Damn, Ellie really went hard into Harry's episodes to celebrate AAPI heritage month 😂😂
Honestly the only one on this list I forgot about was Nightingale XD
I quite liked Alice and i always thought Paris' obsession was really well acted. Nightingale is super annoying as the nightingale ship was a horrible design. I liked Natural law toooo.
Love you folks, but who got the short stick to go thru 7 years of episodes to find the "most forgettable." I'm watching to see if I remember them after seeing every episode 3x over the many years. Easy, every episode with "Captain Proton"/"Chaotica" or the Doctor's singing/romance.
Alice is a take.on the film.A Street car named desire.
give it watch
welp, time to binge Voyager again
I am a Harry Kim fan. It's kind of sad that they gave him so many poorly written, blah episodes.
My only comment here is that it's not fair to rate the episodes by which ones preceded or followed them. Perhaps that perspective counts if you're binge watching, but when these originally aired, a week would pass between a new episode and the one we just saw, meaning comparing episodes was a wispy endeavor at best. These episodes should be praised or criticized on their own merits, not by judging them against others bookending them.
