  • This song Girlwanngi (Old People) was written by Frances and Kenneth Dawson and the song celebrates the legacy that the old people have left for future generations, culture, language and the proud history of Gooniyandi people.
    Kenneth Dawson a proud young Gooniyandi singer composed and recorded the chorus as well as a traditional welcoming song and Wanga (Dance).
    Gooniyandi people have been the custodians of this language and country for thousands of years. This song was written for and dedicated to all Gooniyandi people past and present who have paved the way and left a great legacy of a rich language and proud culture which will be treasured and continued to be celebrated by future generations.
    A big thank you to Yiyili Aboriginal Community School, Yiyili community and all of the A.E.W.'s and teachers who helped IHHP facilitate this project.
