Aw, dude, I remember watching this movie with my mom when we went to Poland way back! I had her translate pretty much every part for me because I can’t speak polish for shit, but man, I was losing my shit with this movie! Definitely one that needs some recognition.
The thing I like about this movie is that it has so many anti communist jokes that it was forbidden to watch this movie for some time 😂 (I'm from Czech Republic so I know this movie since I was little)

Ha ha.... I watched this film over 35-years ago in the UK with sub-titles. Such an interesting & funny film. I still have a VHS video recording of it somewhere; I must find it & re-watch.
I saw this movie on British TV late at night when they put on things you would only find on UA-cam now. It was subtitled but still had it's quirky humor. I guess it was better than I gave it credit for at the time since, I watched all of it and over thirty years later I still remember it!

After Max, Albert and Lamia leave the bunker Max says: "Group! Direction east.... there must be some kind of civilization". Referring to the east of Poland. To Soviet union (at the time of filming still existing). The back drop is exaggerated on purpose to circumvent then still prolific censorship. But I understand how one might draw a simpler and shorter conclusion that it is men vs women.
It is weird that works of cinema and literature that satirized and criticized the late communism turned out to be prophetic. Sadly for non-speaker of Polish, much of the humour and value of this particular movie is in the language.
I have a feeling censorship could only disagree with some jokes by agreeing that the joke was spot-on, and so decided to act like it wasn't and thus allowed it
@@sjonnieplayfull5859 the fact is Polish censors weren't as strict as some may be led to believe, in fact many of them actually hated the communist regime so if they were in a position that they could pass some content under a well articulated pretext, they would and they did - not always but often enough.
Yeah, you could not criticize regime back then due to censorship, unless you "rebrand" it and change a few things so they won't block you... this applied to books too. "Fun" times. At least they knew how to make good comedies back then.

That's precisely what it was. The same director (Julius Machulski) made another brilliant comedy, but set in Soviet conditions of late 1920s Odessa: "Deja Vu". Unfortunately, some mistake this Polish production for a Soviet comedy.
you wouldn't be able to watch this one really anyways unless you are polish. The only place in the internet i found it was on polish site "CDA". Completely free(since site have a politic that some of the movies are for free and for some you need to get premium packet). However it's only in Polish language version and without subtitles. So feel free to watch if you have some polish friends who can translate for you.
