Thirty three years ago, I lived in a 1 room apt while saving $100 per week for 3 & 1/2 years to pay cash for a house. Saved about $90,000 in rent/mortgage. It was a poor period in my life, but I am reaping the rewards today. My $10,000 house is now worth $40,000. I get calls all the time from companies wanting to buy my home for cash. LOL. Ain't no way I'm selling my freedom.
