  • ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
    There's nothing worse than pulling out a camera lens and realising that there's mould growing inside it. However there's no need to worry about how much it's going to cost or even waste your time trying to find a camera repair shop, because this video will show you how to clean the mould from an old (2010-ish) Nikon lens for free and with no tools required (except for a lens cleaning kit).

    Nice work - couple of tips -
    1 Watchmaker's finger cots - these and little rubber things which just cover your fingertips - saves the whole oil contamination issue
    2 Hydrogen peroxide nice safe sterilising solution.

    My old 70-300 AF lens had a big speck inside it, which made it unsaleable. But I couldn’t work out how to get the end off. You solved the problem for me- thank you!

    I bought the correct lens spanner for cheap on Ebay. I also got a suction cup used for repairing mobile phone screens. I also leave lenses out in the sun or use a uv torch I got for few pounds on Ebay to kill fungus.

    Thanks God you did not use scrwdrivers, spaners hammers and so on…lol. To clean my glass lenses I use the blue liquid for window glass that I always find in the cabinet under the sink. I works perfectly. Your advices will help. Take care of you you are so cute. Thanks Lizzie

    I cleaned the front element on my Nikon 70-300 AF-S. The lens had the ring bonded to it but I needed a tool (an adjustable caliper) to remove it as it was quite tight. I used Isopropyl Alchohol to remove the fungus and this cleaned the lens nicely. I know I can remove the lens again in the future, if needed.

    Even if you can't see any mould inside anymore after cleaning, there could still be active spores inside. These might start a new colony of mould after some time. I never had to try it, but inactivating the spores by ultraviolet light or by hydrogenperoxide seems like a good idea to me. Some research on the topic might be useful before actually starting, though.

    Mine didn't pop =/ nikkor 55-200 from D3200 kit. Do you have to unscrew the little side screws before twisting it with your fingers?

    will the cleaning fluid damage the special coating on nikon lens? can't fungus be removed by just dry wiping it?

    • @Delmonteil
      @Delmonteil 9 місяців тому

      You won't remove the spores with a simple dry cleaning. To properly kill the fungi and clean the lens, you should
      1) use an air bomb blaster to move out any traces of dust, micro-fragment of a nail (if don't wear gloves) or anything else
      2) use a pencil brush for lenses or a very soft new pencil brush for painting purposes to remove the remaining dust (the first part of to avoid making any micro-damages on the surface when the brush pushes the dirt out of the glass)
      3) carefully remove the lens and put it into 3% H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) which will kill fungi and even the spores but should not damage the coatings (beware with H2O2 > 3%, make dilution with distilled water exclusively)
      4) use a lens cleaning solution like the one you can buy in optical centers or a professional one directly from Zeiss brand (which may be the greatest experts of glasses/lenses in the world with Leica and Olympus)
      5) dry everything with microfiber tissue
      6) mount everything back
      If possible, wear anti-static or nitrile gloves (avoid gloves with talcum inside in case you pierce it)

    Great and easy video to follow Sometimes if left too long the fungus can actually eat into the lens coating or even the glass

    Try 3% hydrogen peroxide or even lighter fluid. Much better cleaner than those lens cleaning solutions.

    How to clean if the mold is in between the lens

    • @rafall1118
      @rafall1118 26 днів тому

      You basically need a vacuumable container. Place the lens inside of it, soak it in distilled water or isopropanol (dangerous but more effective, can dissolve the glue), next suck the air out and after a moment replenish it. Do that a few times until you see it's cleaner.
