Hi. How did you collect your payment.
Anyone else having issues getting past the TIN? I've entered my SARS tax number, and I just can't seem to get past the address step.
If I leave the TIN blank, I can get to the Tax Treaty step and tick all the boxes, but it then unfortunately says that I need to enter a TIN.
Any advice?

Hi, I saw you putting your Sars tax number in there, will this mean Sars will know and you now have to pay tax to Sars?
No. SARS only knows about you based on any reporting done to them by you or your employer (if applicable)
You do have to declare any such income to SARS, and of course it will show up on your bank account as income from a foreign source. The reason the US does not withhold tax, is because we are declaring income to SARS and should not be taxed twice according to international agreement. Because it is ad-hoc income, it also requires registration as a provisional taxpayer in SA.

Hopefully someone can help me. There is something about foreign income that I don't understand. If I do online freelance work and have an American pay me $50 or so (or full-time say $1500). Do I pay American tax AND South African tax? Or only South African Tax. I just can't find anything about this specifically. I might be chasing ghosts. Most information is about working abroad or foreigners working locally. But nothing about South Africans making foreign income in SA. Any advice would be awesome! Thank you!

Thank you, I just got approved for the ytpp and after some conversations with my wife I realized that there is no way that we are going to get paid without some tax implications, so decided to do some digging and found your channel with this post from 3 years ago. I do notice that adsense have now added a South African Tax option that is separate from US option. Maybe you should do an updated video, to keep the content fresh.

Hello Andre, I am from SA and I was wondering if there is a short course ( one you would recommend) a person can take in order to be able to understand how to fill their own returns with SARS, instead of paying tax consultants.
Hi Sthoko, sorry for only replying now.
The only tax short courses available are for people who want to enter into the tax practice.
With that being said, my recommendation (as a professional tax consultant), is to file your own returns until they become too complex. Like they say, you can change your own flat tyre or check the oil, but you wouldn't fix the car yourself. The value of paying a tax consultant is that they can take over when things become too complex.
Hi Andre. I'm also based in Cape Town SA and have my own UA-cam channel. If in future I become part of the YPP and start being monetized for my channel, how do I handle the monetization from a SARS perspective? Will I only be liable for income tax on the revenue I receive in my Adsense account ? Thanks. Derek
Sorry for my late reply. The basic rule of thumb is that you must add your UA-cam revenue to your other sources of income, and then declare it all on the tax return to SARS.

UA-cam is technically a foreign service, so it is exempt from VAT.

Hi Andre, I followed your instructions and there is no drop-down form to fill in - maybe its because I set up my Adsense account several years ago. But I'm still getting taxed. When I go to 'manage tax info' it goes straight to an existing tax form. I also don't know where to find the 'Articles and paragraphs info??

you set up a business license, and you will get TIN number, you add your TIN (Tax Identification Number) in the Adsense when you fill your form.
