Thanks Brendan - big help. My wife, who is a teacher trainer, saw this over my shoulder and said 'Ooh, he's a good teacher. A natural.' Can we have more basics please? Guaguanco/ Rhumba?
@@BrendrumJones There are a few videos and alternatively I could explain it. Caroline Corr inspired me. I use the ancient Indian rhythms called Konokol and sometimes hit the bottom of the skin for bass and top for snare. It's tiring for your playing arm.
You videos are very helpful for me as a beginning player. One additional thing that would help us visual learners is to film from both the angle you use here and from the side at drumhead level. Thanks!
Wow, thanks for the nice feed back, yeah ill be doing more on the basics, so keep a look out. Im sill getting used to Rhumba, so i wouldnt be to confident to deliver a good lesson on that but there will be others that im sure you will find beneficial. Thanks for watching.
Nice job. (watch your right hand, it appears that you're twisting that wrist up and away often during the demonstration...that could interfere with your techniques later on).
To all the idiots on here who keep commenting on his pink hands instead of the fecking drum lesson: He's a Martian, that's why his hands are pink. He's an Irish Martian. Thanks, Brendan, for this video! It's been very helpful.
@Cruz Fraticelli thanks for saying so im glad it helped. i sold my congas so i dont make any more but i have a few i made in the past so have a look on my page. thanks watching and ill chat to you soon
Stop concentrating on his hands and listen to what he is instructing. I have a question, is it safe and ok for a beginner to buy their conga via Amazon, when it is simply a good music store selling through Amazon. I thought it might be safer because they are real music stores selling and Amazon only keeps them accountable. THANK HOPE TO HEAR BACK
There are 5 basic tones for Conga. 5his video is not using any of them . Working on rhythmic chops beofre learning tone production makes it harder to learn the instrument properly .
Im not doing the basic tones, Im playing doubles, clearly you're looking at the wrong video if you are seeking for an explanation of the tones, and I am implementing one of the 5 tones, its called the opentone.
To the hands people: I, too, am a very pink white person. Whether it’s weather or from him playing, we pink people get very pink very easily. Now watch the video
Incorrect......doubles are not played this way on the Conga......you play doubles on the Conga.....you play palm to finger with the palm muting the second note with the fingers.....and.....like doubles on the kit.....the second note in louder......with the Conga....the second note is played with the fingers and in most cases it is lighter
No, this method is fine to use guys, if you take my advise on this video your understanding and technique will improve without question. But do remember that in all aspects drumming is very vast and there are many way to approach this area.
It is ok to screw a prostitute raw.....it's just not advisable.....so yes, one can use your method....it's just not advisable because it fundamentally wrong. Just look at the greats and you will see you are not teaching the correct application for doubles. Don't take this personal....I am just saying if you are gonna teach....you have a duty to teach correctly.
TheBeatSmith personally I'm not bothered about criticism, I welcome it, but I just don't undersatand your concept, you say the second note on the double should be softer? That would make it sound uneven, why would anyone do that? Maybe it's a language barrier, but your statements have not convinced me. Also I'd appreciate if you were not so vulgar in the comment section next time, people come here to learn, not to be shocked.
First of all Mr. Jones let me state I am sorry for the vulgarity.....I am trying to get your attention and I felt you were not listening.....Secondly...when plan doubles on the Conga.....the first note is with the palm and the second note is with the fingers. This technique actually makes your doubles not only faster but very even. Your technique make the doubles choppy and uneven. The palm should lead and the fingers should fall. I compared this to doubles on a snare because you said you were a drummer. To get a more powerful sounding roll on the snare.....you want to play the second note louder by snapping the stick in the the palm. .....this is easy on the snare because you use sticks.....but on the Conga....you make the first note louder because the palm is heavier than the fingers. Thusly the fingers or second note is naturally softer because the fingers are not as heavy as the palm....this part is just physics. One stroke ....two notes.........Just watch the greats.....and you will see what I am talking about...... Check out these videos.....and you will see. ua-cam.com/video/SALb_ijASjY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/rv0JbdgTA3Q/v-deo.html

I think you are talking about different techniques - Brendan is demonstrating open doubles and Beat Smith's videos show closed palm/tip doubles.
your hands are red
+Fernando Renau Ferrer well you're not colour blind anyway. well done.
+West Coast Drum School Ha ha! People say the dumbest things, sometimes, don't they?
+DrummerGrrrl they sure do!!!!
lmao, why are your hands pink ?
what do you think smartass?
They are pink because he used automatic settings. The white balance with the light coming in from the window messes with the color.
Arent These Fake Doubles? 😏🤷♂️
Not that I'm aware of. It would be if youre a drummer that plays with sticks 😏🤷🏻♂️
His hands kinda make me uncomfortable
Big, fat red hands ✋
Talks too fast and can't understand what he is saying (terrible)
yeah maybe, sorry it was moving to fast for you
