- The National Children's Hospital is being further delayed.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will today hear the hospital will not meet its scheduled completion date at the end of October.
Representatives from National Paediatric Hospital Development Board, Health Service Executive (HSE) and Department of Health will appear before the committee this morning.
Last February the Government gave the green light for a budget of €2.24bn for the hospital, but a statement from the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board warns ongoing delays are driving up costs.
TDs are seeking answers following further delays to the completion of the project.
The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board will advise the PAC that the hospital will not meet its scheduled completion date at the end of October.
Sinn Fein TD and Public Accounts Committee Chairman Brian Stanley said they will be seeking clarity.
"What we're hoping for is some answers in relation to what the completition date is for this hospital," he said.
"We know now that it has overun the original period by sabout four years.
"This hospital is badly needed, the public understand that, children need to be treated and need to be treated in a tinely manner.
"The fact that we don't have a modern children's hospital has hampered that."

Silly accusation by SF. The government meets the building contractors quite regularly... on golf courses... yachts... in private clubs...

How are these criminals allowed to run a country?, like, what are you doing?. And to think people would still support them and think they “mean well”. Put the traitors on trial. 🔨
Unfortunately all trust is gone with all parties , same old promises & lies , while ourv own ppl / nation arevput at great risk & danger .

🤢 Traitors
Just because you speak Irish doesn't make you so . EU puppets
It definitely LOOKS like someone, somewhere is getting VERY rich off this project. Just saying. But I'm assuming of course that everything is totally above board! This is Ireland after all. The spiralling costs must be due either to incompetence, or unforseen obstacles. And cost overruns of 400% are to be expected these days. Especially when the hospital site got the go ahead at a location that everyone who mattered - consultants, patients - were completely opposed to. Except it seems the company contracted for the build. And before you get too cynical about figures, just remember, any of us can be bad at maths! They got the original estimate - 500 million - SLIGHTLY wrong, and sure, an extra 1.8 billion should finally sort things out! Or so they assure us. After all, it is only the conspiratorially minded would think that the alternative - where sweetheart insider deals were made, leading to vast sums of taxpayer's money being siphoned off to overpay for the project by MULTIPLES of what it should cost - is what is really happening. But that is crazy talk. It only LOOKS like that. So don't worry. There is nothing to see here.
talk about immigration - nothing else matters
BAM must have some inside information on the government because how they got the tender for this project is beyond anyone. Everyone knows they undercut the tender process and then jack up the price after. Well known for it. Shocking. And are BAM held accountable?
Just shows the contempt the government have for us
Knowing now The kids hospital needs more cash ,and how much of a scandal this is ,,they couldn't even be bothered to show up
The condescending tone he takes is mind boggling
He was in the government that sold the country to the IMF
He's in the government presiding over the most expensive hospital in the Universe
Yet he pontificates.like.hes absolutely perfect
A secondary school teacher is what you are ,, never lose sight of that Mr Martin
The cost is disgraceful but that location was never right. We attend St James and it's already a challenge to get parking, never mind getting to that location as it's all one way streets. It should always have been on a green field site somewhere outside the city.
And is a National hospital not only a Dublin hospital.
SF MI5 utter traitors!
They now attend Blackrock & Mater Private and never on a A&E Trolley for 24hrs…
The next fiasco is the Metrolink, first proposed a quarter of a century ago, no work started yet!! 😔
Jesus, Mehole Martin is the king of saying loads but saying absolutely nothing at the same time. One of the old school still left doing the auld double speak. His teacher being 'The king of double speak' Bertie Ahern.
It's more like government incontinence.
Irish government is busy in Gaza , they built 200 houses a month and welcome 1000 economic migrants 😂😂😂
If you still decide to vote for FFG, you only have yourself to blame at this stage
Ketttle calling the pot black from Sinn Fein!
