Finally! Someone who understands that back pressure is far better than whacking with the mallet. Force the rocks to move. They will respond most of the time and get broken up. It is far more efficient and easier of a job to use the button rather than the mallet. Good job, sir!!
Here's a design consideration for an upgrade to the crusher. Above the vertical crushing vanes on the movable plate, put 3 horizontal vanes, smaller than the large vertical ones. The purpose is to grind away at points or edges that come in contact with the moving plate and help the rocks smoke their way into the main crushing area. And, above the obvious seam, put about 5 more horizontal raised vanes to further help grind away the parts that overran the mouth of the crusher. Easy to do and I think it would produce a lot more production with far less mallet or gaff use. Of course, this will never happen but I surely would like to see it implemented and the effect it has. The relatively smooth area above the vertical vanes does very little to help get the rocks to get into shape to fall into the mouth of the crusher. Anything that helps would be good.
