I’ve used this technique for many years and he’s absolutely correct (no shit considering he’s one of the best players on earth) but I self taught myself this. I used the Bobby Shew method and developed my range even more I was already up there but not with the power and dynamics. I now play lots of this monkeys stuff (said in a nice way) also lots of Maynard’s charts etc. this last year I’ve had medical issues but I’ve come bouncing back but thanks to these people I’ve been able to quickly get back into it. I haven’t had a professional trumpet lesson since 15 I’m now 54 so mostly self taught. I will hand on heart say I can play all night from peddle notes to super C’s but Wayne please don’t do anymore features it’s killing me lol 😂 thanks for the inspiration oh by the way I have a yammy custom Bergeron model after having a Morrison one in 1995 cheers keep safe

Did he actually say he uses the tip of his tongue to hold his lips open? Has anyone else heard of this?

I think when he says this he means he’s setting up his aperture with the tip of his tongue his then moving it away when he’s ready to play

I been advised to push my tongue forward instead of pulling it back when I play high notes. It helped me keep my neck and my airways relaxed.

Keep the middle part of the lips there free to vibrate and not clamped down.

Excitement, energy, big finishes, helps build up soloists, audiences love them, makes music fun, people love the extreme nature of extreme registers, helps bring narrative of song to cresendo, adds pop and sizzle, etc..

Wayne didn't even mention tongue arch 🤔...and many youtube teachers said when going high , think small airstream not too open loud 🤔 🙄

Not good teaching. Not helpful at all. A teaching session should never include watching someone else do it, but rather having them try and giving them the secrets.
He Never reveals the actual mechanics (embrochure), air, airspeed, tongue arch and diaphram support to play high.
There is a mentality that goes with it and an actual way that you can practice to train your body to play high.(I should have become a high note teacher).
    An Amazing player though!!

Frankly, most good players suck at teaching and just resort to meaningless platitudes. It's unfortunate, but it seems everyone is that way.
