  • Edit: in the video I said the case was 223 when in fact it was a 204 ruger case. Was just some random case out of the scrap bin for the demo showing a forum member the easy process.
Just a quick demo forming cases from 223 (edit 204 ruger case in vid not 223/556) and 222, it's not voodoo or impossible task. Takes some time and practice to get right, I wrecked a number of cases experimenting how to form down to 17fb. But I have my procedure down well after alot of trial and error. I get few failures now and then, in forming my own brass but nothing like when I first started doing it as I've found what works best for me. Once you have the hang of it, or you find what method works best for you, you'll get usable cases that will last you awhile. that are sometimes hard to find or purchase at high cost especially here in Australia. Forming your own from cheaply available cases will get you out of that pinch and or negate the headache of finding those cases.
In the video I mentioned Lee dies, whilst I got this one cheap. It's not the best in my books I used it purely for the demo for a forum member. I've found the 221 Rcbs or redding dies better suited for the take (especially when forming down to the little 17fb) as the bleeder hole in the dies is not at a critical point in the case, and not as aggressive as the Lee die bleeder is. This bleeder can in some cases cause a gouge in the case or a buckling point in the case. especially with trying to form older cases, or not once fired brass as the material is harder. Annealing can help but you don't want to anneal too much as it can buckle the shoulder in another step when forming down further calibers.
On the forum page I have posted two pics of the cases used in demo the 223 case wasn't in the Vid as I didn't realise my mistake till after the video. The principal is the same no mater the case used for forming your 221.

Mate you potentially saved me a lot of time and money with this! Reading all the posts online they suggest 2 stages at least. You're a champion.
Just wondering what you use to neck turn?
    Cheers
