- I did it! I completed the 2021 Honolulu Marathon. If you'd asked me how the race went on Sunday, I would have told you it was terrible. However, now that I go back and watch the video, I was going strong until about mile 24. The Diamond Head hill crushed my body. I've never had to stop and stretch out a cramp during a run before. It scared me and I didn't know how I was going to finish. Somehow I did and my time wasn't too rough either.

Congratulations! I’m doing the Hawaii Marathon this December. I’m hoping that living at altitude in Colorado will be helpful!
I live in the springs, but I am also from Hawaii. Other than logging those miles, training, and staying to your plan, hopefully it should be sunny yet cool. It is always warm/mildly humid but very nice in the morning as it is a constant 50 to 75 degrees majority of the year!! Hoping for good weather! Anything beats the snow XD

Altitude should help !!! I run in the mountains near pikes peak all the time and around northern Colorado Springs :D
Just make sure you hydrate! This is a hot race, but I think you'll enjoy easy breathing :)
See you in 3 weeks lisa. Lets crush it.
Wow!! Congrats! That is a really fast pace! 🎉
Thank you! Hoping for a tad faster this year :)
During the 2023 Honolulu Marathon all the finishers medals were gold plated and the top finishers had their medal made out of pure good. Were the medals in 2021 also gold plated?
Awesome job 👍👏👍
Congratulations 🍾 you are a rockstar!!! You did it!!! Do you feel like it was the hardest marathon because of the cramping/external factors or did you feel that the peloton training plan should’ve included more mileage?
It’s hard to say. I think I logged enough miles to be ok during the race. It was incredibly humid at the start of the race and then it ended in the sun. I planned to drink the course power aid, but they only had two stops. I didn’t have anything else other than water so I think I got cramps from being dehydrated. I had another bad cramp after the race too so I don’t think it was a training issue, but a hydration/ nutrition issue.
@@homeiswheretheysendus This is so helpful!!! Thank you so much for the information and your detailed review, you rock!
That’s where I will be in a few weeks! Good race, curious, what was your time? I’m trying for 4:20 or 954 pace
Hey george, thats the pace i am going for also. See you on race day, i will have my Las Vegas shirt on. My 82nd full marathon, 4th honolulu marathon
@@runningkirkwa2934 that’s awesome! I will be on the lookout, perhaps we can pace each other! I look just like in my profile photo, but few less hair lol…see ya soon!
Hope to see you out there!
George - I finish around 4:45. I was holding a great pace until I started cramping at the end. Hoping for 4:30 this year.
@@runningkirkwa2934 we’re very close to Marathon Day! Kinda bummed as I had a minor calf injury a week ago. Still planning for main goal of 420, but also preparing for goal B. Is parking there difficult? Will probably get dropped off…see you soon!
How did the Apple Watch hold up?? I’m scared mine is going to die before I can finish!!
My watch was fine; however, it was new. My older watch might not have made it. I’ve run 4 marathons with an Apple Watch and it’s always been fine. See how much charge you have left after your 20 mile run.
BPN has an electrolyte powder that is really good and awesome taste *not a sponsor or ambassador* lol. Ive just found it seems to help me a lot more than Powerade or Gatorade. It also taste better than the Noom tabs I have had.
I'll have to check that out! I actually had a small bottle of Noom, but it just didn't cut it. I've always carried water and then had poweade on the course, but that plan definitely failed this time around.
Mile 20: half way point!!! ;)
Yes! It was the beginning of the end for this race. Looking forward to redeeming myself this year.
