Arizona Trail Day 21 - Into the Superstition Wilderness
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- I head into the Superstition Widerness in the Superstition Mountains and face some of the most challenging trails yet! There is just so much elevation change constantly. It really puts a strain on the body. At night I'm again challenged with trying to find a place to camp.

The red orange flowers look like Indian Paintbrush. You may feel tired and bummed, but you got game!
The orange-red flowers are Indian Paintbrush.
Oh, nice of you to tell us.
It's amazing what you're doing! I love that you're documenting it, I'm loving it!
Nice scenery but your knee is paying for it. Hope you will start feeling better on your zero day.
Thanks for getting a video out most every day and entertaining us. Great effort today on the trail.
Keep on wandering. It’s a good part of my day
I enjoyed seeing the pretty lavender verbenas. They added a little color to an at times bleak landscape.
The lavender flowers are Gooding's Verbena (Glandularia gooddingii). As other have mentioned, the orange-red flower is a paintbrush, most likely Wholeleaf Painbrush (Castilleja integra).
I think we've all had those moments on a long distance trail, suddenly it's not fun anymore and it seems like all the circumstances are working against you. You've got an unbelievable attitude and strong mental game, so I'm sure it didn't last long. Funny, but those moments and persevering through them are what makes me a backpacking addict. Keep your head up, you're on an amazing journey and we're all cheering you on out here in UA-cam land!
Fantastic videos. Appreciate your efforts in these videos!
Loving your videos of this trip. The wife and I anxiously await when a new one comes out.
Keep your head up on those downer days man, tomorrow will be awesome.
If you need to take a zero for that knee to heal do it. I got taken off the CT in 18 for the same thing.
Loving this trip you are on!
You go, Jay!!
I remember not being able to find my stride on that section of trail. The way it twists and turns around rocks and cactus and such just makes it harder. The views though! Did you notice the Indian ruins north of Walnut Spring where the trail drops to the west of Two Bar mountain? Thanks Jay.
Ha, I drove up to Rogers Trough in Toyota Prius Prime (4.8" of clearance). I am in no way advocating that anybody else try it in a Prius, but it is doable, though it took about 2 hours to go 18 miles :D
I wonder if tablets of magnesium and maybe potassium too would help stop the quiver in your leg. I sometimes get cramps in my own and when I take magnesium it goes away. It's a neat trail your on, I'm enjoying it.
It’s fun to find weird stuff on trails! Thanks for sharing that moment! I laughed out loud! Great stuff.
Great hike! Is that iced coffee in your bottle?
The mountain views at 16:48 and 17:28 are the Four Peaks!
Went to this trailhead on Tuesday March 15 and it was very cold, large amount of snow on the ground, and winter blizzard conditions. Turned around. Not safe. Was going to Roosevelt Lake.
The next time you get to a town pick up some KT tape. It’s super good for providing some extra support to your knee, or ankle, or whatever ails you.
I'm voting that the orange flower is a honeysuckle. If you pull out the green thing, the base is sweet like honey. Sorry you had a bad end of the day. Food will help you thru it :)
Did you consider bringing a solar charger for power? Would it work well in that environment? Many thanks
Watch, Inspire two fitbit, goes way over a week, maybe two, on a charge and its the small light one. $60. You’re doing 👍
No Ibuprofen?? Aaaaaargh!!!!!
Q: Why do you carry your water upside/down on your shoulder like that?
Maybe it’s a custom water kit? I have one that has a shoulder strap attachment that you can hook directly to a vitamin water bottle. Then you attach tubing with a mouthpiece. I’ve switched to this in a different form because I’ve had so many failed bladders.
I believe it’s because It holds it better as he only has the small bungee cords.
Great vid man! Are you doing south to north or north to south?
He is headed North
You in a bad mood? No Way!! However it did seem like one of your less enjoyable days. 👍👍
