    Part 1 of 3
    I found the hairspring to be bent and one of the balance timing screws was loose in the watch case. After repairing these faults, I stripped and cleaned the watch movement. Then I re-assembled and lubricated it and brought this lovely watch back to life.

    You just made my day/month/year!! 😃
    My wife bought me one of these around 8 years ago. It wasn’t expensive as it doesn’t work.
    We hoped one day to find someone to repair it.
    It went by the wayside. I kept taking it out of the drawer, looking at it. Kids in school; other priorities for our money.
    Now I will try to repair it myself, thanks to you, very carefully and slowly. Thank you again from a Brit currently exiled in Australia. 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 👍

    I can't believe it's an eight years old video it's 2023 now !!
    And this videography looks just like any other 2023 watch repair video on UA-cam!!

    I love your channel, i have hundreds of Waltham watches. I collect mostly Pocket watches. Of all kinds. Im pretty proficient in the repair. I have purchased many old tool collections over the last 30 plus years. Your CHANNEL IS ALWAYS INFORMATIVE. I've seen your Video on printing a Dial face. Do you have a source on ceramic Dial Face replacements. I have many i cleaned and work great. Bit the damage too face is either rusted, cracked and otherwise irredeemable. Any Suggestions.

    Really amazing and educational, still wouldn't dare tackle my watch ! I have a lovely old family Waltham that I have pulled the winder out of.....unfortunately there don't seem to be any watch repairers willing to take it on, it now is in a drawer which is a sad end to an early 20thc watch. There must be many such ends to what are otherwise lovely watches....you are a rare breed !

    Hi Marc... Brilliant channel! It's great to know that in this disposable age there are still people around to care for these beautiful miniature machines. BTW I noticed that this watch has been through less than careful repair in the past - the stripped balance screw, missing dial screw and chewed up screw heads are the evidence!

  • @knafrancis
    @knafrancis 9 років тому

    Marc, if you're ever on this side of the pond, consider a tour of the Waltham Watch Factory in Massachusetts. It's a great bit of manufacturing history - American pragmatism balanced with an old world art form. They have a wonderful recreation of a watch maker's bench.

    I don't live too far from the Waltham Watch Factory. I wish they still made watches there. Btw, the locals pronounce Waltham, like "Wall-tham" versus "Wall-thumb". ;)

      Trench watches were exceptionally generic back then, and if you just type Waltham Elgin trench watch in ebay you'll eventually find one. This Elgin watch looks fairly similar:

    I wonder, with a Guillaume balance like that isn't it necessary to adjust it over a period of days to ensure the isochronism?

    Hi, I'm Just new to your channel and I LIKE IT, I watch it intently..Honestly, the reason being I'm watching watch repair now is because I have an INVICTA SUB AQUA NOMA II chonograph. which stop working, i thought it was just a battery replacement and this Egyptian repairman who replace the battery took half day to replace it, I knew he did something wrong with the watch. I replace THE bat. trice though to other repair man but it some how every two hours its stop working. can you advice me please whats the problem, some how i don;t trust the watch repair man here as I have notion that their just practicing my watch or they already wreck it or even worse. I Appreciate your kind advice Thanks . keep on blogging Bro. Thanks much

    Bosley watch regulator lever is missing on my 1926 Swiss Buren trench watch. Is it easy to replace it, are they compatible with other Swiss watches?

  • @douro20
    @douro20 9 років тому

    It may only be a 7-jewel movement, but it has a Breguet overcoil hairspring, a bimetallic compensating screw balance, and a long regulator arm.

    11:44...aren't you afraid of damaging the top balance pivot by lifting the balance and balance cock like that?!

  • @larryshaw6517
    @larryshaw6517 4 роки тому

    Why didn't you just close up the hole in the balance rim, that way there would not have any problem with poising error
