The first time I heard this was on Woodland avenue pouring out of this West African music shop in South West Philly where a significant West African people live and run businesses...( restaurants, grocery stores, boutique and other shops. The man who ran the shoo was from Guinea so he was able to give me a run down on the album as well as sell me a copy. I rushed home to play it and fell in love with her strong, bell clear, nasal toned voice. I loved the album so much that I would bring my tube speaker to work and play it at my station in the restaurant I worked in. I remember the resctions....mostly young college white kids who waited tables would stop and listen and start dancing to the songs while picking up their plates to take out to the dining area. Although I'm African American they'd ask me what some of the songs were about even. I could only share in summary what I knew about them. Now I'm familiar with a lot of her music and will safely say I love her music more than Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross and Beyonce put together. Southwest put me onto a gem when I heard her sing.
