Rip Queen Sylvia... You were amazing! I used to sit right at her feet in the Old Kingston Mines and listen to that gospel swoop that came up from her throat. Her smile could melt the coldest snow... She was the only bass player of the female persuasion in the city of Chicago at the time. Another fabulous musician here RIP , the great Jimmy Johnson. A distinctive guitarist with his own fabulous set of pipes. He had a wonderful gospel/soul swoop to his voice as well. I'm so lucky I got to see both of these artists many many times.
This woman deserves to be recognized. She left us in 1992, but her bass playing was unique and she was as authentic as they come.

Nice post : there was still great blues in Chicago in the eighties. Sylvia Embry is damn good here, as she used to be. And it's Zora Young in the end - Sylvia calls her just before. Wish we could get some more ....
Thank you! Shared on Google+ & Facebook. Remembering *Queen Sylvia* - June 14, 1941 - February 28, 1992.
