Looks like basically an early 80's Funco chassis with a custom body. Stock VW front trailing arms and towers in the front. IRS in the rear with spring plates and extended torsion bars, all the rage in desert racing back then. Except no one would run tires that big in the rear because the transaxles of the day just weren't up to it.
you are correct, 80s rail stuff. it’s a Highjumper rail chassis. 13 where built. Pro Built by William Fredrick. They have a “Gorilla” transaxle in them, apparently Gorilla was an outfit back in the day that modded transaxles. custom built swingarms etc.
The one in Newport Beach Ca, is parked in front of South Coast Army&Navy Surplus or at least it was last time I saw It , and it had the roof missiles, the side mini gun and a side cannon and if I remember they even had the bike inside with a mannequin dressed like Ace Hunter, the buggy was chained to light post outside and had lots of rust on it from the salt ocean air. I asked the guy if he sell the buggy and he said nope, that it brings in more business then anything else and people who don’t even know what Mega-force is stop by just to ask about it.
Can’t tell you how f..king cool this is!!!!! Always loved this movie I saw it in the theater always wished they’d redo it to be more serious version, like they originally wanted to do in beginning. it had a lot of compilation with other movies that summer

As corny as this may sound Special Forces often do use tripped out dune buggies armed with machineguns and anti-tank rockets. It goes back to the time the British used jeeps armed with machineguns taken from aircraft that could fire armor piercing bullets and used them on long distance raids against German airfields. So Megaforce has some historical backing to it, scary isn't it?
One of these was rotting in front of some shop in San Diego some years back, it would be nice if it were also restored. Funny thing is these were VW bug based san rails, and now all that old stuff has gotten stupidly expensive. Would be fun to take one to the road warrior party in the desert sometime though, I'm sure there would be plenty of fans who'd love it.

My brother in law, Bob Stapleton lived up in the high desert and owned Mega force He would drive our kids around in it and shoot off the various guns and there were two front launchers that shot out smoke ?

Way Cooler than Picard's Buggy and I wouldn't be surprised it would be to long before it could even have working light reactant paint too like the original was supposed to have.

a friend has an M35 with trailer - he had a pipe hanging out of the trailer was was stopped by the cops who thought he had a cannon.
