  • Check out our visit to Aquaculture System Technology (AST) to see where the ground breaking bead filter is manufactured.
I also want to show you AST's recirculating aquaculture facility and some of the technology they are using.
In this episode we take a look at how AST is using some of their technology to remove solids waste using air.
It is important to remove solids as quickly as possible from your aquaponic system because it takes up oxygen and creates ammonia.
And we don't want this to happen, so we need to get rid of it.

You guys should become a possible reseller of the bead filter or join a referral program and have an affiliate link. I personally would purchase one of you offered it.

Please go more in depth about the solid filtration, i would like to see, how it works in detail.

Hi Brooklyn! Just got your book Aquaponics God Manual in the mail. Very informative, thanks! Hopefully I can learn more on the Beads filter in the book. Best regards, JF

Brooklyn, love your videos! I have a question for you. Love the idea of a bubble bead filter, but not sure if I can use it. I want to maintain a CHOP2 system and unsure of how I can make this work. This is an overview of my system:
    PMoon Aquaponics Project V1
Housed in a 26’ diameter geodesic grow dome allowing approximately 530 sq ft of area
The system shall be a CHOP2 type system.
The fish tank is an oval sunk approximately 18” in the ground with about 29” above ground. It is estimated that the tank will hold 1,300 gallons of water
    Grow areas:
    • 4 DWC beds (trapezoidal to match dome shape) of approximately 11 sq ft of grow space each - will likely be all greens (lettuces, spinach, kale, mustard, etc.)
    • 1 DWC bed 8’ x 3’ with a 4” fill - approximately 60 gallons and 24 sq ft suspended above the fish tank - this will grow watercress
    • 2 Flood and drain beds the same size and shape as the DWC beds mentioned above - miscellaneous plants
    • 10 Dutch Buckets systems in 5 gallon buckets - mostly tomato, pepper, cucumber plants. These will also house two basil plants
    • 2 - 4 NFT systems in 4” x 4” x 8’ tubes suspended above DWC beds - greens
    • 3 - 4 Vertical growing systems possibly in the future
There is a 300 gallon sump tank that sits 42” below ground level. It is approximately 38” tall. My intention is to use a variable speed pool pump and locate it in the sump area with the sump tank. I have been considering using a Pentair 011018 variable speed.
There is a sunken area next to the fish tank that was (in the original design) going to house the filtration. Filtration was to consist of one 50 gallon cone bottom swirl filter and one 50 gallon moving bed biological filter
Initially planning on raising tilapia. Planning on starting slowly getting up to about 200 - 250 fish. The plan is to switch to Perch later. We want to have the ability to increase fish to maximum for this system.
Is it possible to use only one pump if I switch to the bubble bead filter? Not sure if a SLO will work out of the fish tank on this. It seems that you need pressurized water going into the filter. Would I still use the swirl filter if I go to the smaller version of the Bubble Bead filter (my system seems to be of a size that falls in between the filter sizes). Thanks for your help.
PS - tried to add a couple of photos but could not

Why is the sludge flowing so slowly. Its good because it saves water during the backwash, but with the air bubbles knocking off the waste from the beads it would be expected to have higher water flow at the exit of the system.
First question but long time subscriber , thanks

So it's separating even further the solids from the water preventing water loss from the cycled system?

    Hey guys, great info!! thanks
One question, what can the solids be good for once removed from the system? Could soil be enriched with it maybe?

The microplastic pollution produced by these systems is disgusting. That shit gets everywhere and there are natural options that work as well.
