Manipur: Protest in Bishnupur demanding DGP, Security Advisor's resignation

Bishnupur district of Manipur witnessed a torch rally on the evening of June 13 seeking an end to the protracted crisis in Manipur within a week. Organized by Bishnupur Apunba Lup (BAL) the torch rally witnessed the participation of hundreds of residents of the district who expressed resentment over the government’s inaction in dealing with the crisis that has been continuing for over a year. The protestors also condemned the recent wave of violence that hit Jiribam district and alleged that the Manipur government failed to deal with the crisis seriously. Holding the government responsible, the protestors demanded that the incumbent BJP-led government surrender to the people while seeking the resignation of the state DGP and security advisor for their failure to prevent the violence from escalating.
Slogans demanding the removal of Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh and Assam Rifles within a week echoed during the protest.
Bishnupur Apunba Lup President, N Debachand while speaking to the media said that the Manipur government failed to resolve the crisis and has no moral responsibility to run the government further. He also added that the security advisor and the DGP who utterly failed to check the offensive launched by the “Kuki militants upon the civilians” must also resign from their respective posts within a week.
On the other hand, four student bodies including the Democratic Students' Alliance Of Manipur, Kangleipak Students' Association, Apunba Imagi Machasing and Students' Union Of Kangleipak in a joint statement on Friday, also sought the resignation of the state DGP and security advisor to the Manipur government while criticizing the state government for its inability to handle the crisis effectively.

The protection of life and property should be the prime duty of a government. DGP and SA should take the full responsibility since Biren is not in power regarding law and problem.

@@user-re7oj4ff1b yes, I am aware of what is happening in Manipur and yes I am Kuki whose house, whose car and whose scooty you have burnt. I am one of the many thousands who had to flee to save life but had to part with entire life's hard earned savings. Again, never did I ever thought that meiteis could stoop to such low level. They surely do deserve a category lower than tribals.
