Vito Genovese never killed Frank Costello, he had Vincent"The Chin"Gigante to do it but failed and only grazed his head and the bullet I believe was lodged in the brim of his Fedora. Frank Costello later claimed he didn't see who shot him. The Chin had supposedly said thanks Frank after he was found not guilty.
The Chin walked by Costello in court and said "Thanks,Frank" out loud to him.

Vito Genovese DID NOT kill Frank Costello. He did issue a "hit" on him, and Costello WAS shot along the side of his head, but it was a basic miss by the shooter, and Costello recovered from the hit (miss). Costello, did , however, decidt to move to Florida and retire from the Mafia, so it a way Genovese did achieve his goal of taking over Costello's mafia boss position.
