E46 M3 Coupe vs E46 M3 Convertible

- Decided to upload this video as people say the convertible is significantly slower than the coupe. I’ve raced many coupes and I typically pull on them but my buddy’s M3 is the quickest I’ve raced.
My car also had a passenger.
Coupe mods:

The difference is about 190 pounds in weight. That is significant in track terms when you are pushing these cars to the limits. Especially in cornering when you push the car you will feel it, but the majority of time on the street convertibles are a blast. Nothing beats that S54 with the top down. If someone wants to go the convertible route I would focus on suspension, sway bars, strut braces etc. It is not so much the speed but the handling that gets compromised.
That is very true. I also have a titanium exhaust so that stock heavy muffler went bye bye lol. Upgraded sway bars is next on my list. Along with the DMG strut tower brace because I noticed my OEM one is slightly bent.
yep I have the e46 cabrio and you're totally right. top down, with an exhaust and intake it's a blast. even a slow ride becomes way more interesting. you can take advantage of the nice spring and fall days driving through the forests
@@Anzikidd I went turners sway bars front and back with adjustable links. You will see a huge difference with sway bars.

If you like the convertible go for it. Heaven knows there are way more available in soft top form.

No bro the coupe is much faster than a converteble it's to havier,I think this converteble is tuned it have moi power than the pups and he knows how to drive that's way it's fast
@@vidosmvula5355 We’re both on the same tune, same header, different muffler, and different intakes. We made about the same power. Keep in mind I had a passenger, and a hardtop. He didn’t have anyone. I’ve raced 3 coupes n it’s been the same outcome.

@@tribewu3223 2 things. 1. His windows were down. Massive wind drag. And 2nd. All M3's are not equal. It's been reported that many M3 owners replace new vanos units as a scheduled maintenance, and gain adding a supercharger like performance gain! So one healthy vanos vs one almost ready to start throwing timing codes will make 50hp differences. Also, you drove your car good. Maybe he didn't, you're obviously too young to have had it from new. So its possible you have a tune. I purchased mine with a hidden dinan tune. It took 3 shops to discover it was there. It takes a specialist to see the timing and fuel tables were modified when reading the DME. All I'm saying is. If you're steady wining races against coupe M3's something is different about yours. BMW has the times from zero to 60 posted as significantly slower. It's not just street talk. Bmw wanted everyone to know the vert was slower. It wasn't a secret. Or all your friends just suck at racing. And exhaust definitely makes these cars faster. Enjoy the S54 I've had mine 12 years. There're expensive toys. You have to pay to play. But they will last. I have 250k miles on mine! And still kicking ass on the streets. Enjoy it bro! Btw, you might just have one of the sickest sounding s54's on the street! Sounds awesome! Name and cost of that titanium exhaust?

It would. I raced a 335D tuned by DUDMD (local tuner) and lost badly

@@Anzikidd Same, i have a e92 320i atm, been looking for a 335d for ages, they rarely come up on places like autotrader and because of this covid thing and chip shortage when they do they are crazy expensive! I took a 335i out for a test drive a few weeks back, didn't rate it to much tbh, 19mpg and very problematic, waste gate problems and stuff that cost thousands if they go wrong. It was pretty quick, sounded nice, but im getting rid of the 320i for the same reasons...problematic, its going into the garage again today for another £1000 worth of work :(
The diesel is so much better, ideally id want a 335d touring as the boot on my coupe is big, but cant put anything tall in it, can't get my ebike in without scratching everything. 335d touring are rare as rocking horse # though so im gonna be waiting ages to find one.
@@Sir-Kay A stage 3 335d has over 900ft/lb of torque, will do 0-60 in about 3 seconds, why would you need 1000hp?Torque makes the car accelerate faster, HP gives a higher top speed....so the M3 may be able to do 200mph, but the 335d would beat it off the line up to about 155mph.

Come on gentlemen. These are classic collector cars not Honda Civic drag racers. We're beyond this kid stuff. Show some respect and do this on closed race sanctioned roads not public roads where lives are at stake
