Glow plugs generally pull about 200 watts. At 12V that is 17 amps. That panel he has is at best 25 watts. Running 2 plugs it probably took him 6 hrs to heat up that water. But if you don't want to pay to heat water this is a good option.
You can not heat the water with glow plug. If you put it inside the water and touch it you will fell only the warmness. There is not enough energy to heat water. Its only used for assisting in the ignition of diesel fuel ...
@@kookia213 Glow plug turns the 12volts he is getting into heat. They work the same way in the car, they heat up to enable diesel ignite. now in this intstance he is using the heat to boil water. I hope this makes sense...

How long will the glow plugs last until they burn out? I always thought they were built to be turned on for only 10 seconds. How have they held up, please update us.
good remark ,, i will test it with electriciry before bying all these parts ,, and see how long deos it lasts .. and if it deos not last ,, i will make a timer that open and close every 10 seconds ..
Glow plugs are generally in the pre-combustion chamber surrounded by air. Being submerged in water will pull the heat away really quick. I'd bet they'd last longer in this set up than in an engine. I was a heavy diesel tech for about 10 years before changing to engineering.
You don't need them to get red hot to work to heat water, meaning you can put two in series to reduce voltage and wattage on each making them last longer... This guy really doesn't show us if it is in parallel or series...

This is a project that shows it can heat up.but not the best way to heat water. Solar thermal is already a proven technology. The amount of money to insulated this container alone u can simply go buy a small solar thermal heater.
Probably it wont matter if it overheats....the plastic probably can hold the boling heat and from what i can see he did a small whole on top so the avaporated water can go out and the pressure wont cause it to break or something......when all the water evaporates though , i dont know.Maybe he can have continued stream of water with a stoper of some kind when it reaches a certain water level and then to stop pumbing in water in the container. Kinda delayed answear but whatever :) its just a guess im not expert.
