    1:45 I had always wondered how the Jockeys held the reins- like when they go to use the whip and then have the other hand on the reins. Great video Frankie!!

    Great comment below about breaking from the gate. I have always wondered about that... how to maintain your balance on that sudden burst of speed. I love your videos! They are very helpful because it seems as though being able to ride thoroughbreds correctly is some sort of secret to those who want to learn - not many people want to take the time to teach it. I am trying to soak in all the horse racing tips that I can before I apply to the NARA in two years :) So, thank you!!

    Yes Brian, jockeys break from the gate, try and settle and save something for the end, later part of the race get lower to the saddle and push on the horses.

    Thank you so much for liking my jockey lesson videos so much! I am sure I make some more in the future but our 365 day term videos have me so busy. I have my What It Takes To Be A Jockey DVD, do you know about that? It's for sale in the Jockey World website.

    It all depends the horse, you ideally want them to relax with a nice long hold by their withers, but if they are pulling you, you may need to shorten your reins. But if you shorten your reins first, if the horse is aggressive, might make them more aggressive so have to try longer holds first to create a relaxed gallop.

    If you are watching a race, and the jockey is legs outstretched, knees almost locked, hips high in the air, does that mean he/she is not pushing the horse? They don't look to be trying (to me) unless legs bent, body close to the horse, pushing on the neck as you do in the video. If the jockey appears to be doing nothing, is this a strategy to save the horse for the end?

    I think you will get use to it a bit more, but in stirrups on the box when nothing is moving would cause that. On a real horse when your muscles are constantly breathing and moving, you should not have too much trouble. Hope this helps!

    Mr. Lovato,
    Although the equipony was designed for 2-10 year olds, could it be used for practicing racing techniques?
    thank you for these great educational videos

    I really want to start exercising race horses or just helping out any way possible! Since I was 5 years old its been my dream to race I'm 18 now and it seems impossible. But atleast exercising is a piece of it. I live in western new york and I don't know where to go to ask. I know the race track would just laugh and turn me away.

    Hey Levato how come you don't want to squeeze with your knees? It gives much better contact with the horse, so you feel it's movements, but as you said gives you less balance... What is better?

    • @Equicizer
      @Equicizer  9 років тому +2

      Lucas Olsen Lucas, balance is king. Without balance, you're not a good rider. Feeling a horse better by using your knees, I do not understand that.

    • @bpman6031
      @bpman6031 7 років тому

      because if u squeeze with your knees it will spook the horse and it won't stop

    @hannahalexismommy UHHH.. first of al be very carefull race horses can go extremely fast, I would practice your emergency stops first, there are 3.. and then ride like this guy, and just send him (With your arms and hands) if u want even faster u could show the whip a couple times (flick it next to his face slightly) or a shoulder tap if hes being lazy.. be carefull.. good luck
