For all of us that live in Jackson Hole this has truly scarred us emotionally. We loved her and will forever be grateful that in her own way she allowed us to join her journey. Thank you 399.
very sad. this story reminds me of when a wolf called romeo was shot and killed on purpose those people in alaska were very emotional. different story both tragic.
399 was wonderful. I'm saddened at her loss. Her legacy lives in her cubs. Great tribute
Now this Beautiful Bear is now in Heaven, may God Bless Everyone, Every Animal ❤❤❤❤❤
My heart is broken at beloved 399's death and the way she died. She has absolutely touched my life. I love her and will never forget her beauty and grace and the great contribution she made of bringing and increasing the grizzly population in Wyoming where, before, there were hardly any. Rest in peace, beautiful Mama. 😢❤ We were blessed to have you. 😇
Tom Mangelsen photography art will make sure this bear which was a national treasure will never be forgotten
Thanku for all your work in documenting this Grizz ❤🙏👌... She was a joy to have here in this world ..... Our God is a good good creator to give us things like this to share in this life
Thank you Tom for all you did to capture something so Beautiful on camera that we cherish and probably never will see again. It was an awesome Journey.
Please build animal/wildlife bridges.
Absolutely terrible to know she is gone...
Who tf was driving that fast
makes me so sad God bless her ✨🐻💕
The posted speed limit is 55. Driver was legal. Shame on the State for having a speed limit that fast in a known heavy wildlife area and not more wildlife bridges.
The driver was not speeding. Read the reports before you speak. In fact they were driving well under the limit.
@@ahamilton63 not true they hit the bear and killed her
The driver was not speeding. Let go of your hate.
Hopefully, a foundation will raise money on her behalf and immortalize her and her story with an epic Paul Bunyon sized bronze statue in either Jackson's town square or at the Wildlife Museum up the street.
I read they are going to make a life size bronze statue in her memory
Maybe spend the money on a wildlife bridge
Ridiculous how much traffic
@@amycolonna-robinson8335- yes - build wildlife bridges.
Safe crossings for bears and all animals should be a priority😢 Beautiful 399 mama bear’s death was preventable and her 1 year old cub would still have his mother. Let’s make road crossings safe for animals-we can do it👍💪
So sad may she rest in peace 😢
Heartbreaking. Hwy speed should be reduced. More Wildlife bridges built.
I love bears but let's set the record straight. 399 was hit south of Jackson, not in Teton National Park. There has not been any " legal" grizzly hunting in Wyoming or Montana for over 45 years. Please, no comments from haters..these are pure facts.
This is why we need wildlife over and under passes. This is so painful😢 humans ruin everything 😢
😢😢 so heartbreaking Grizzly 399 may you Rest In the Sweetest Peace 🐻 sending my heart felt condolences to all who traveled to the area for you and may your legacy live on through your 18 beautiful cubs/bears ❤❤ sending love from Boston Massachusetts
Heartbreaking to hear about the 399 as I just watched 399 this morning and in the afternoon hearing the sad news. Rest in peace 399. You are loved by many 😭😭😭
What will happen to the remaining cubs?
How has the incedent impacted the driver who killed her?
Apparently they are absolutely devastated.
No, that’s awful! She was a great bear.
Many thanks Tom am very sad don't understand how this happened, this driver not paying attention, on cell phone ,driving over the speed limit, under the influence of something ???? She was a very big girl seems like she would have been seen in time????? People just don't care anymore, very sad!💔💔💔💔💔🐻🐾🐾💔💔💔🐻
It wasn’t in the park. It was on the highway in Snake River Canyon, south of Jackson. It was at 10:30 at night. That road is very curvy, with nowhere to go if something is suddenly in the road.
Read the reports about the driver. They were not speeding or distracted. Far from it. Its just a very very sad accident. But its not the drivers fault.
Beautiful animal. I got hit by a car and broke my knee. Tibial plateau fracture. That's terrible. Must have been going pretty fast to kill a large bear.😔🌸🌿💞
It is important to build animals crossings . It saves lifes both human and animals
Good bye my friend ❤❤❤
❤❤❤
1.2 THOUSAND comments!!! Wow!
I'm sorry it happened .
The Bear made Thomas famous I dare say.
This is what should be done for every famous animal when they pass away have a monument exhibit about their story life how she survived hunters who wanted her as a stupid trophy and i wanted to see her 1 day after watching the pbs episode but now i hope her descendants can continue her legacy!🙏🕊🪦⚰️🏞👑🐻
Elk hunters are the reason she lived so long and had so many cubs.
NOVEMBER GUTPILES IN WY ELK AREAS 75 AND 79.
Can some locals put up a petition to put grizzly bear under protection and call for all fans to sign this petition?
Sad
This really sad. Unfortunate, but perhaps avoidable.
I’m not saying that whoever hit 399 was driving too fast. However when I was visiting Yellowstone National Park, I was stunned by how fast some people were driving. Especially the folks on motorcycles. Some people had to be driving 60+ mph in areas where wildlife crossing was a constant occurrence.
Someone riding a motorcycle who hits a bison at 60mph isn’t going to survive the impact. And the bison probably won’t either.
Unbelievable
I don’t believe this. She made a major contribution for her kind here in the US for so long that, I don’t think any other bear after her can do the things she was able to do throughout her life. To think that it’s been some time since I heard about the passing of P-22, the mountain lion who was able to live in the heart of Hollywood, California for a decade, only to be devastated again by hearing this news now. May the Almighty Creator remember these 2 unique animals and shape the minds of those who truly care about the natural world and all of its inhabitants. 😫
That sucks
😢😢
the man that hit grizzly 399 with his truck, were there tire marks proving he slammed his brakes on?
Heartbreaking 😢 why can't people SLOW DOWN through the Tetons ? So many of our beautiful wildlife as people are always in a hurry😢 there are signs WARNING of wildlife! Pay attention to our signs
Best bear people should slow down
Driving is a lost Art . Have seen how people drive its crazy Thay don’t pay attention.feel sorry for the bear.
Off to the happy hunting grounds
From what I've heard, she was trapped in a canyon area. River canyon below her and too steep to climb up. If this be true, wouldn't cattle grate guards prevented this?
Live by the road, die by the road. Tom mangelsen used 399 for profit.
And your point? The things people in this world exploit for profit are far worse than taking pictures of a bear..
used how so ? He memorialized her with his wonderful art photography.
What a ridiculous comment. As @ItaNoption said, his book on 399 is now a wonderful record of her life.
@@ahamilton63 You are ridiculous!! If no photos over her lifetime we would have no way to share her legacy. What exactly is your “personal” issue ? Do try to explain without ridicule.
@@ahamilton63Apologies I misunderstood the direction of your comment.
