Crown princess Märta of Norway died of cancer in 1954. Her husband, later king Olav V of Norway, lived the rest of his life in solitude. Until he his death in 1991.
King Haakon was in the first car after the procession. He was quite old and of ill-health at this point. From 1955, a year after this, Crown Prince Olav actually became acting regent all the way up until his father's death in 1957.
@@mikehoyme-q3u Yes, he fell on his bathroom floor and broke his hip. He never came back after that. I don't think there was anything else wrong with him, just that he couldn't walk, and he didn't want to be seen in public like that. For the last two years of his life, Crown Prince Olav was regent.
This claim about "lived the rest of his life in solitude" is not really true. He actually later proposed to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Marina at various times, but was turned down by both.
Märtha Sofia Lovisa Dagmar Thyra 1901-1954.
So prince Harald was only seventeen when he lost his mother. What a tragedy.
The last Norwegian royal consort born to a noble/royal family. It is very sad that she did not become queen of Norway.

Zelo žalosten dan za celo Norveško. Kronska princesa Martha je posvetila svoje življenje svoji ljubljeni Norveski
Très beau document
Convenu!
Was King Haakon not at the funeral?

@@ruralor Thank you for that information. I couldn't even see the King in the Cathedral which was why I wondered if he was there.
I believe I saw him next to his son in the church near the end of the video.
King Haakon had a severe fall in 1955 which basically left him an invalid.@@ruralor
