It's been a strange season all right .....
We have rarely hit the impressive City form of yesteryear in any of our league performances this season, although we have somehow still managed to conjure up a few resounding wins ... we have also 'floundered' and drawn seven games, yet here we sit today as possible 'history busting' champions, PROVIDING we don't drop any more points ...... Arsenal have probably played the best football in their entire history, yet they sit here today, as the season draws to a close, totally relying on City blowing it ...... City have only lost three league games, at Villa, Arsenal and Wolves, which, so far, is the BEST in the Premier League, and to say we were absolutely abysmal in at least two of those, would be a total understatement ..... so, even though it appears, even to our own fans, that our overall consistency and performances haven't been 'quite as good' this season .... on the quiet that consistency IS probably still there!
And before any clued in Arsenal fan brings up the fact that their 1930-31 title winning Arsenal team scored 127 league goals, and in comparison they have 'only' netted 88 league goals this season, that Arsenal team of yesteryear did play 42 league games and defences were definitely nowhere near as good or as effective 93 years ago, as they are today ..... that 1931 Arsenal side would almost certainly NOT beat the Arsenal team of today !
In fact, in that 1930-31 season the top three clubs ALL scored well over a hundred first division goals each, which probably shows just how poor most defences were back then!
So, who finshed bottom of the league that season, i hear you cry, lol ? Only Manchester United, having conceded 115 goals!
