Theirs was truly a love story. His death broke our hearts and still haunts me to this day. Their skating was superb and sheer perfection! Rest In Peace Sergei.
I still haven't seen anybody equal to G&G...Always Beauty In They're Skating, & I don't believe that Any Pair Skaters will ever be able to compare to them...I would love to see a pair, at least come close to the Legend of G&G ⛸💞✌ RIP Sergei 💝🌹🕇
Their split twist throw is higher and more perfect than ANYONE else’s I’ve ever seen. Sergei throws her SO high, and she flies into the air as if she’s a feather. And the way he catches her on the way down is just pure perfection....a total JOY to watch. They have completely perfected that move and NO ONE does it better than G & G. No one. God, they are just amazing. Pure perfection on ice. And they make everything they do look like it’s sooooo easy!! As if it’s just totally effortless. And THAT’S the mark of greatness and talent. I could watch them skate all day long and enjoy every single minute.
@fluffywhitedog fluffy I’m afraid millions of people would easily disagree with you ... and that includes me. These two are/were the epitome of pairs skating. Their love for each other translated to their performances on the ice. It sounds like you haven’t seen many of their performances. I’d urge you to watch anything of G&G’s you can find here on UA-cam. There will never be another G&G in pairs skating ....
I wish Katia were right here in the room with me right now as I’m watching this. I’d love nothing more than to finally be able to tell her how much pure joy and happiness their skating has brought me in my lifetime. Their skating often inexplicably brings me to tears .. that’s how deeply it touches my soul. I love them and I will always love them and there will never be another Sergei & Katia in the skating world .. they were the darlings of that world back then .. right up until Sergei’s tragic untimely death not long after this right here😢. And the fact that Katia somehow managed to go on after that painful tragedy and create a life worth living for both herself and Daria is indeed a testament to her unbelievable strength and perseverance and the great love of her lifetime. I think of them quite often .. Katia and Sergei .. and how unfair it was that their great love story was cut so short .. and how joyous that day will be when they’re united together once again in heaven ..🕊💞
Huge respect for Brian Orser their coach who trained and helped world class skaters and even to this day us coaching yuzuru hanyu who literally has world records for all the awards he’s won under Brian
@yellowbanana104 Yeah, they are coming back, but they will be in a Bucharest center and another trainers will work at Deva and Onesti. I hope Romania will be olypic champion, even if Russia, USA and China are great teams! Thanks for your support!

@Sileeee56 thank you. what a huge improvement for jamie and lena as well, and the russians...........so proud of them. china achieved the results the russians achieved in this olympics. wondering who will be next.....
Elena Berezhnaya was skating with Oleg Shliakov in the 94 olympics. They came in 8th. She didnt pair with Anton Sikharulidze till March, 1996 after he rescued Elena from Shliakov after he almost killed her by slicing her head with his skate doing a spin. He was also beating her.
@yellowbanana104 No problem! :) They were 12th that year: 1 Ekaterina Gordeeva / Sergei Grinkov Russia 2 Natalia Mishkutenok / Artur Dmitriev Russia 3 Isabelle Brasseur / Lloyd Eisler Canada 4 Evgenia Shishkova / Vadim Naumov Russia 5 Jenni Meno / Todd Sand United States 6 Radka Kavarikova / Rene Novotny Czech Republic
@Sileeee56 Well who knows at this moment? Thirty years ago China placed last in pairs, but now they produced three pairs placing in the top fives with two medals including gold! Let's wait for Romania to shine. I think this day will finally come, just as you guys start your gymnastics dynasty with a Nadia.
@Sileeee56 Really? Belu and Bitang are coming back? That's great!!! But that will mean the Romanians will be bitter rivals with the team I support. Anyhow, that's good news.
@yellowbanana104 Thank you for your beautiful words, but in my country the federations are poor anddon't have enough money for sport... In gymnastics, we are good now too, but not so good like some years ago... Octavian Belu and Mariana Bitang will train again our girls, for 2012 London Olympic Games.
@Sileeee56 oic, sorry for that :) i think she was still with her old partner and placed not as high as 5th? I bet at that time, she couldn't imagine she would be in one of the greatest "scandal" in figure skating and got the gold with credits to the American media. She seemed more humble in here.
Show specifically where you believe he lost position. He is considered one of the best male partners in that move ever. M&D's split twist was not as high, he was all over the place in their side by side spin he was not centered at all and the spin traveled. The last lift was not elegant by any sense of the word. At this time in skating artistry counted and G&G *not like the robots of today* beat them hands down! You can also hear M&D on the ice scratches everywhere....you just don't hear that with G&G they are smooth and FAST...sorry charlie you are 100% wrong.
@@cleosmom7 Yes, M&D were very innovative performers but they were not good technical skaters. When G&G stroke across the ice, they have tremendous glide and they are super-quiet. Whereas with M&D, you can hear them digging and scratching across the ice as you had mentioned. And Dmitriev almost always traveled on the SBS spins and his footing on the lifts was very laboured (whereas Grinkov was absolutely effortless in that regard).
Commentators also said at the time that while you couldn’t see it on TV, they skated practically twice as fast as everyone else. Brasseur and Eisler skated very well and thought they were cheated, but the fact is, they skated more slowly. G and G were on such an incredibly high level that even if they made mistakes they still blew away everyone who slogged through a clean program. The twist was so much better than anyone else’s that it would cancel out a spin that was out of sync. You don’t just ignore the dozen things G&G did a thousand times better than everyone else, compared with one or two mistakes that might have put the others ahead on those one or two particular elements.
As I recall, G&G received a mandatory two tenths deduction on the missed unison on the spin. But everything else was far superior to everyone else, so they got no other deductions. Everyone else is turning in comparatively mediocre skating, twists, jumps, spins, so they get little deductions that all add up. You don’t just hinge the whole competition on the one element that the amateur can see was flawed, when the amateur cannot see the difference in what was great.
