I have 50mm drop with normal shocks and 16 inch alloys with 50 and 55 section tyres and the ride is hard I think due to the shocks always being compressed and so losing that top softer part of the shock? It corners well though! I’m looking to get shortened shocks which in theory should make the ride better as that initial absorption should still be there. Anyone fitted gmax or Avo lowered shocks or anything else? What’s the ride like?
Hey dude. Its so refreshing to see a UK VW bus restoration. I'm currently getting my VW early bay window bus back on the road or trying to ha. I just installed my brand new gearbox yesterday and the engine is going back in very soon as well as new bearings on the back etc. Keep up the good work with yours dude. @@vdubpollygrey7094 no probs dude . Absolutely. I'm not sure how you send pics on here but yeah absolutely will when I figure it out ha. My bus has taken me years to do and hopefully she will be back on the road very soon. I'm also going to start building a new interior on mine too like cabinets etc. I got the wood etc coming this week and looking at electrics etc too a fair bit to do ha. . Cheers 🙂.
Alright mate, I found it easier to put a jack underneath the wheel mount and undo the tierod aswell. Drops lower and makes spring removal easier.
Be just a straight swap for me, current ones are coroded.
Good job man. I'm going to be raising mine 1.5". I'm a little sketched out by the spring compressing part thought. 😬
it's the worst part of the job compressing the spring should be easy but what a pain in the ass lol

great video! i plan to lower mine and this will be really helpful! one question ....Can i clamp the springs using a normal socket ? or do you need the powered tool?
you can use hand tools mate I did but its a real work out .the worst bit is getting the bloody clamps off the springs once there out lol
Awesome video dude. So are you putting the same shock back in ? Also what springs are you chucking in looking to lower ours a little
50mm lowering springs I've but in mate got them 2nd hand and had them powdercoating I'm putting old shocks back in but will change avenually/ I think the hight now is perfect. Good luck with your van

You have done loads of work and i am wondering if any complaints about noise.
One of my neighbours always shouting at me whether working on van or house.
No i am lucky really i try and be as respectful as possible like not working to late or turning compressor off when im dont need it things like that mate
How much was the van lowered by using the 50mm shorter springs. Has the ride changed any? Thanks....great build
i haven't been out in i mate still got the o/s/r to do then i guess 1st ride out will be to mot centre lol . the van certainly is lower at front but not to much at rear but i have still got 1 side to do
A tip: you can watch movies on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

mate I got them 2nd hand and got them powered coated
What size tyres do you have?
205/55/16 fronts and 225/50/16 rear mate
