It is not. The law states that anyone who reaches a US border is entitled to file for asylum. That is why they are given a court date, to see if they qualify for asylum. The ones who do not come to the borders are the ones who enter illegally. There is a difference

Absolutely Love Texas and governor Abbott!!! Texas is doing what the federal government should be doing!!!
Agree on Texas, but Governor Abbott took about 7 years before he started finally doing something. It wasn't until Huffines poured in millions on a serious primary challenge and the Texas GOP chairman Allen West also jumped in and Abbott started to get worried that Abbott suddenly started doing the right things (which then undercut Huffines' campaign since it was all focused on Texas building a wall and then Gov. Abbott announces he's building a wall). Better late than never but he was pushed into it. He had many cycles to help pass school choice (we came close in 2015 and 2017 and needed his help in the primaries but he didn't). I was fighting alongside my Texas state reps who were begging Abbott to start building a border wall back in 2015 and they kept saying we have no money (meanwhile giving billions of in-state tuition taxpayer subsidies for illegals) and they were mostly against Trump and his wall until Trump won the primary and they saw the writing on the wall but even then, Abbott didn't start building the wall until 2021, took him 5 dang years until Trump was out of office and he thought he maybe had a shot at POTUS (quickly dashed when Trump re-entered he was at least smart enough to see the writing on the wall). I'm glad he's doing a few things now since 2021 now that he's eyeing a POTUS run probably in 2028, but some of us had been calling on him to do all this since 2015 and had to wait 6 years to see any action. It's only NOW also by the way that Gov. Abbott is calling a special session for school choice. He had many chances to pass it last decade or to put pressure on the holdout votes and call special sessions but he never did until 2023.... that's 8 years too late in my book. Yes, better late than never, but Texas has been turning blue on his watch because of his inaction.

This is a lie. Staffing agencies require a valid social security number, or a work permit. They SHOULD be investigating the farms, construction, and meat processing companies that hire and pay them under the table. But Republicans don't want to open that can of worms. Their paymasters will have none of that.

They already have that. It is called E Verify. The IRS will give them an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) and they get Child Tax Credits too. The government knows where most of these people end up. This is how they know how many are here.

Passing this law in Texas is a great idea but part of me wants to say, "...so what took so long." And I can understand the issue of, " how much is this going to cost and who will pay." The States can't borrow money into oblivion the way the federal government can. I propose the State of Texas set up a fund and put out an appeal to all patriotic Americans to help with the cost. You might be surprised how much support you get.
