- Regaining control of your UA-cam watching habit can feel daunting. As someone who is continuously trying to break the UA-cam cycle of watching hours of videos every week, today I show you my detox strategies for maintaining healthy screen time and mindful online habits when using UA-cam.
I've always had screens and tech in my life, as someone born in 2000, and smartphones and social media are just a part of the way I have experienced the world. On my channel I share my experiences with social media, and take you on my journey towards digital minimalism and managing the digital distractions of everyday life. I always love to read about your experiences of using smartphones, technology and social media in the comments - they not online inspire my progress, but also help others to relate. i've been addicted to youtube since I was like 13, I'm in my early 20s now, but I always watched educational stuff so I tricked myself into thinking that I wasn't like other addicts, but now I can't stop being online otherwise I feel anxious. I hate that I'm like this :(

Take classes off line and create a long term project with a deadline with something to lose if you don't do it, and that will take you some of your yt surfing time.

Not gonna lie, i was so smug about not using much social media, but my hours on youtube and reddit are disheartening. Im no better then the social media addicts...
The term "feed" says it all really, like chicken feed, and were like the chickens mindlessly consuming the unhealthy grains they throw in our direction.

I watched UA-cam the past 13 years. I enjoyed it a lot. Never felt like a problem. But in the last 2 years the content got worse and the algorithm aswell. Now it feels like a problem, but UA-cam is such a great part of my life. This is so hard to quit, because there is no alternative. TikTok or Instagram are even worse. Netflix and Co are also getting worse with nothing to watch. If there would be an alternative quitting would be easy,..

I have horrible addiction to youtube that is ruining my life... so i'm really happy to find your video sounds extremely honest and legit. Also about helping extensions i have thing that helps organizing subscriptions. I can't remember how it's called but i'm sure it's easy to find since it's popular. It helped a lot since i have way too many things that i'm invested in hobby and study related. This way i'm not getting distracted by my subscriptions like i can concentrate on studying one thing while ignoring another.

I make videos , mainly about wildlife and nature .It's put me in touch with visually every country of the word , where I connect with those living there .A positive genre , no trolls and posting is once a week or twice a week..British , Living in German one must speak fluent German but do enjoy the multi lingual nature .Finally, at times you can find the answer to a problem and that Ella is a plus for YT .Thanks again . I have a bad habit of subscribing to channels that I barely watch. They may upload a gem here and there which is why I’m subscribed to them. I like that you set a 90% threshold for your subscriptions to get rid of all the clutter and distractions. I should probably set some kind of threshold for myself and see how it goes.
Also, for mobile, you can use RSS feeds for your subscriptions. At least that’s one way of seeing your feed without having to run into the UA-cam home page.

Instantly got it and I'm feeling like this is gonna be super useful and really help me to reduce the amount of time I spend watching videos I don't actually care about. I definitely have a youtube addiction. I've been using the unhook youtube extension for over a year. One thing I created was a UA-cam Channels I Could Watch bookmark file. I put in channels, I don't watch all the time but I've kept that relate to my interests. I intend to write down time slots on the weekend to watch youtube (similar to tv channel slots). One thing I'm going to try out is watching a few videos from my watch later instead of new home feed content or things that my selected channels post that aren't totally my thing.
I like the idea of having a set UA-cam watching time slot!
I hate UA-cam even more now that they include shorts because on the mobile app it just swarms 75% of my browsing. :( I miss old UA-cam.

Great video, I find myself very easily distracted by UA-cam and it's not uncommon for me to accidentally spend hours on it lol.
I tried leaving some comments about a way you can have something setup for UA-cam on Android thats similar to how you were using the unhook extension on desktop. But I think youtube removed my comments within a few seconds of posting :/

yea it's the last social media addiction I have. the crappy algorithm is doing the work for me keeping me away from consuming the 💩 content it recommends (besides this video lol). my plan is ironically to start up a channel for purely upload purposes and only respond to video replies. I am a philosopher & polymath so they is definitely lots for me to talk about. I am on the right path though I was planning on getting rid of the app from my phone and just listening to music while reading books while I'm in that brain-dead but wanting to learn and be entertained state I often find myself first thing in the morning.
Its a tricky balance to strike, but I think UA-cam isn't inherently bad, just when consumed in large quantities. Maybe you could give yourself a 'watching time slot' each week for an hour, say, or only allow watching on a certain day in the week. Also, I find producing content way more satisfying than watching, so for you starting a channel with content may be helpful. Thanks for your insightful comment!

6:12 Yes, we(Weee) can hide youtube comments from UA-cam itself and it's by activating(turn on) "Restricted Mode" (I do it)
if you disable your youtube activity that is disabling watch history and search history, youtube wont show you any recommended videos on home feed.
help me! I have almost 5,000 videos in my watch later playlist to watch, but don't end up watching them and keep adding to it via the recommended tab, and my subscriptions. I have tried cutting down on my subscriptions, but it is still a pretty large amount. Thanks

Subcription option still an update is a noticeable on this site as saved page will come as notification might be daily depends on uploads still will make you watch as latest expect how important it is but suggest watch later video can be seen anytime & space still helps as a shortcut tab not getting involve with other random vlogs Social media puts a person mind in one corner your main physical & verbal attraction becomes poor like a brain fog slow sense day dream taking electronic radiation waves from artifical light into the eyes can score down the visibility during long term use just watching for beneficial based on education is rather better than wasting valuable times in reality world

I cant take it anymore, i am jumping ship for as long as it takes. I am a prolific writer and every time i get on yt, i BLOCKED, and i get foggy and exhausted.
So the reason I don't watch as much UA-cam anymore is really funny. Because I became addicted to TikTok and ever since I uninstalled that app (I am still sad to not see certain creators) I did not pick up UA-cam again. Probably because the algorithm is not as good, because every video is such a commitment due to its length (compared to TikTok) and one of my go to channels was involved in something which means I no longer watch them for ethical reasons. Also throughout my many years I have amassed such a plethora of subscriptions that even the subscription feed is not that catchy to me, as I almost never unsubscribed from creators. And finally I switched to a dumbphone, which means that I cannot watch UA-cam all around the house anymore, as my only UA-cam device is my computer and I am not carrying all that around just to watch a little UA-cam. All in all I don't feel as compelled to watch UA-cam anymore and it doesn't give me the same satisfaction that it used to in addition to me putting up the tiniest barriers.
Most of what got me here, I do not recommend to people though lol

I watch educational and self-improvement stuff, and although watching those type of videos are generally better than watching mindless 60-second videos, they're still an addiction.

I think I have a crush on you. But yeah, the amount of filmographic indie creation youtube has nowadays is so overflowing. Everyone posting about some interesting thing happening in the world and they'll analyze it all the way. Like wow, suddenly the waves of ocean are a world worry
