I'm a Midshipman right now, going through NROTC (not on scholarship sadly, at the moment). I've always been fascinated in anything and everything naval, and (unsurprisingly) the idea of serving as an Imperial Navy officer sounds awesome. However, personally for me I'd rather be in command of a voidship (escort or capital) than be in charge of a station or other administrative duties. Same with my (hopefully) future naval career; I hope to be aboard actual ships more than getting stuck with a shore based job.
Hope you get to command a destroyer someday :D
How did it turn out?
@@PunchyWasHere Managed to psyche myself out, tried civilian stuff for a while, found I hated it and I’m now playing catch-up, but hey, lesson learned.
@@thirstysailor579What do you mean psyche yourself out?
@@ricky6608 Thought I wasn’t good enough, so I’m having to play catch up.
1:36 Wow, that was a lot Imperial Navy and Space Marine fleet in space. More like billion of army, in the Emperor's name!
For the Emperor !
"Useless bureaucratic nonsense". That describes most of the Imperium's organizational structure, though?
Both my parents were in the navy. I think the Commodore would be the best role plus the title sounds the best. Great video 👍
Excellent choice. Both high ranking AND stylish.
Would an admiral spire video be possible? I know he's a video game character, and i haven't been able to find very much myself.
I wouldn't mind talking about him. However, like you said, he's a video game character and, at least as far as I could tell, the only lore on him is what you see ingame. So, not much despite some cutscenes and dialogue.
@@GrimDarkNarrator That's true, aisde from personal gameplay and a few scripted choices there's almost literally nothing else.
He's a rather important character though, id say GW should use him with ol Papa Bob at some point jn the lore aside from whats in the game, not to mention half the other stuff he gets up to.
(Wow... it's impressive how much more complicated the Navy hierarchical structure is compared to the Imperial Guard. Maybe it has something to do with their position in space? Looking down upon all the worlds instead of fighting on them or living there... hmmm, not sure, but thinking on it.
In any case, I think I'd honestly want to start off as an ensign and see where I go from there, if I was inserting myself into the universe. Let's be honest, most of us are definitely not fit for 40K, and if rose up, I'd want to get there on my own merits. With that said, the most attractive rank to me would be that of the Flag Captain, or Lord Captain. A nice mixture of authority, class, power to speak on behalf of the Navy, and personal involvement in handling problems, all with one of the more potent and powerful ships. An excellent mix I believe.)
Imperial Guard hierarchy is also pretty complex. I would dare say even more so because, while the Navy is uniform across the Imperium, the Guard has unique ranks and positions for every different regiment :)
(Well that's true, however that's on a micro-level. Ultimately, those unique ranks and titles don't really get to move out of the Regiments do they? And whatever regiment then is still grouped beneath what is ultimately a general, who then reports to a Lord General Militant, who reports to a Lord Commander, who reports to the Lord Commander Militant. On a macro level it's very straight-forward, and seems designed that way to simplify things and prevent the complexity of the individual Regiments from affecting the overall process.
The Navy though seems to be fairly complicated on the Macro level and then internally into the Micro level... or that's the impression I'm still getting at least.)
True, as a uniform organization, the Navy does seem to have more complicated ranks and rank relationships.
(Yep! Or again, that's my impression. It does make me interested in how they got that way, though I think it likely has to do with uniformity in void combat versus the use of cultural differences and different tactics between Imperial Guard regiments.
Ah, regardless, this was a very informative video! Never realized how complicated the guys who flew the ships around could get.)

The women of the Imperial Navy.
Not that attractive in a conventional sense, but make no mistake,
She is not here to impress YOU.
You maybe right. But what's with her left arm?
Mechanical arm.
Propably snapped of by a Tyranid or caught in a closing Bulkhead or something.
more like trying to put the fear of the Emperor in you.
most likely, yes
If any of us were in 40k We would all be taking orders from her and doing exactly as we are told.Very few human's alive today could actually handle living in the 40k universe.
Have you ever played Battlefleet Gothic: Armada? It's really nifty to play as Admiral Spire. :-)
I played the game and really liked it. One of the few good 40k games post-Dawn of War. The story missions and ship customization were great but I hated the repetition of some "random" missions.

Especially the early data recovery missions when you only get 2 cruisers. The enemy just always stole it back immediately. Had to wait to 3/4 of the countdown and pray one of the enemy uses a lightning strike early.
HellllooUA-cam algorithm. Lets get these views up.
When playing battlefleet gothic I always called my escorts "allahu akbar-ships" because they fired torpedos once and then blew up ramming an enemy ship with overloaded engines:-D
Sounds like tactics the Orks would gladly employ.
I always feel bad when they die, but I know it's their purpose. I have a few that I just keep hiding in gas clouds, scanning, then sometimes casually sniping from a distance with their lascannons; they actually survive quite often.
YO why do you sound like necrit?
