For the price? Definitely a game changer. I'm getting ready to build a push bumper out of 2x6 and 2x4 tubing and channel iron. This will make a big difference. Thanks for the video 😊

12:00 - The reason these saws are worth it is because the SAW rotates and not just the FENCE. It's great for stationary use in a table setup, you can just rotate the saw for miters. You're not "supposed" to use it upright, but I made a table that I drop in the clamp and it's good to go!

Thanks for posting this video, I had no idea HF had introduced this stand. Bought one this morning. No Problem setting it up at all. Trigger switch works well. I use mine mostly for cutting off stock for machining on a lathe or mill, so getting things perfectly square off the saw is not a big deal for me. But I will definitely check it and tune it in the best I can. A suggestion for you: when making videos show the features of the item, you did not really show how that table swings down to hang off a bench, or at least I did not see you show it? Talking about what other companies have and the prices is pretty much a waste of time, we all know how to use the internet to find out what costs what. But, once again, thanks for making us aware of this piece of kit.

Having difficulty getting the saw to cut pipe straight. It's like the blade is twisting while it cuts, and the cut ends up at an angle from top to bottom of the cut. I have Hercules cordless saw, and my Son has a Bauer corded saw. THey both do the same thing when mounted on the saw mount. Any ideas??

i bought one the day it hit the shelves in my store. i love this thing, but yes the initial trigger setup was fiddley. small price to pay for the versatility. btw it can be bolted down in the upright position there are 2 holes in it just for that. a couple threaded inserts will be making its way into my bench where it lives and a couple wing nuts welded on some all thread for quick setup changes. overall i highly recommend this. for me personally this has been a game changer and has tripled my use of my portaband

Definitely a bargain. I got my older Dewalt to fit it with a bit of fiddling around with the Dewalt handle adapter that was clearly made for the more recent versions. It was offset pretty far to the right side to fit blade into the the slot in the base, so the On-Off trigger was useless. I zip tied the trigger and got a foot switch from HFT like others suggested.

Daggum, I wish I’d of caught this one sooner. i just bought the Evolution 7-1/4” chop saw and not too happy with it. Sure it’s a budget tool but to me the stamped metal base is awful, just too darn thin. The 🗜️ isnt that great either. Sucks because if not for those two things it’d probably be an awesome tool.
This would of served my purpose just as well, plus the added versatility is def a positive. I’ve been seeing these saws forever, just never crossed my mind. The stand here looks really well built. Oh well, I guess maybe next time! I don’t have the wallet to complain and I’m sure Evolution’s larger chop saws are way better. Maybe I can modify this smaller one at some point. Didn’t run the blade, used a Diablo on it and it did cut awesome, so not a complete loss. 👍

The portable saws are great for cutting thin-walled tubes and thick aluminum. But if one wants to start cutting solid steel bars or whatever, then the feed speed of the saw is way too high, and the downward pressure is way too low. You have to have a good chip load on the blades; otherwise, they rub more than they cut, and the blades don't last. Just my two cents.

I had drawn plans to build my own stand some months ago because I could not stomach the stupid money that PORTBAND PRO wanted for their BAUER stand, they are no longer making them and likely out of business , the reason is simple , nobody buys a stand that cost $375 dollars plus tax for a $ 99.99 on sale Bauer saw .
I incorporated in my design a hand grip trigger system to turn the saw on that could be operated at the handle instead od a fixed on trigger that is harder to turn off if you need to in a hurry and it allows for left or right handed use when scissor sawing .
The other part of my design is a mount system that allows the saw to be removed from it at anytime by front receiver which allows the black T handle remain mounted and the rear handle to be gripped at the base because those rubber rod clamps will destroy the soft rubber grips on the saw the first time it is clamped in . I use the band saw in places where I do not need a stand
but like having one for all of the reasons why it is made for .
Since I was copying the PORTABAND PRO ..via a picture I had already made the trigger mechanism and saw mounts . These pieces already made adapted to the HERCULES stand easily
no major surgery m best of all it converts back to stock in minutes . Just finished it today ...before seeing this video . works fantastic I am not good with videos and even though I have a channel I have never posted one . I would like to show my mods because other people may want to use like method of mount and removal.
About the Hercules stand....rush out and buy one before the price goes up .. they are well built and better than Portaband pro
My H F store had only one besides the display model ...I could not wait to get it home.

I'm an avid DIYer, and have lots of power tools, but as of yet no band saw, since I can't seem to find a need it fills. This setup seems interesting, but again, I'm assuming that for cutting metal either my 7.25" or 12" sliding miter saws, with a top flight metal cutting blade (I've got one for each), will do everything this band saw can do (and maybe do it better) other than cutting the metal sheet on a curve (which I've never had the need to do). Am I missing some valid reason to get this setup, or do I have everything I need already?

I haven't had a need for a horizontal function as of yet, but this looks like a solid solution for just that.

I hope this works with Ryobi
If it does and somebody can tell me so that would be great!
I know what I'm going to get the next time I have a Harbor Freight coupon

So I use this and have been for a while (I bought it before it made it to the display room, it was back in logistics). The only thing was I had to swap the two bolts for the vertical table to have a smooth platform. That cost me 10 minutes to hit the tractor supply TSC, but it fixed the issue. I also had to work hard on the trigger... but I did not need tape. That and the replacement screws were my only issues. It is a regular use tool for me.

This looks like it could be a solution for a lot of people that don't have a lot of money or space. From my understanding the metal band saws are really expensive and cheap ones are hard to find talking about the vertical non-portable ones. So this I've seen a lot of people make stands for these type of saws. So this could be a solution. I'm definitely going to look at it

I hate to be red army strong but ive gotten sevwral milwaukee band saws for about 100 to 120 dollars and max 20 shipping used from flea bay. .. .. i built a stand well i cut a 2x4 steel square tube at the righr angle to weld to a verticle steel area like my diy press and took a 4 inch lb cover and brazed two bolts on it, cut a edge flat and cut it to make a zero clearance bed. 😅😅😅 so i mean a 100 dollar table and used milfuckey for me

Question: When do I use a friction disk on a chop saw vs a ban saw? Today I pretty much always is the friction disk (just because I have it handy) vs pulling out the portable bandsaw.

I would buy it but the vise seems like a problem. That hand vise looks insecure. Also there's no vise to hold a square tube on edge to prevent the blade from cutting flat. Any workarounds for the limited vise?

I've got a King brand portaband saw that I have been meaning to make a vertical stand and table for. I think I will pick up this stand from HF, I may have to make my own adapter for the front, but the ability to use it as a horizontal saw should make it well worth the effort.

Is there anything that can be cut on your band saw setup shown here that I couldn't cut on either my 7.5" or 12" sliding miter saws with a high quality metal cutting blade?

I just recently got into blacksmithing and now need a band saw for cutting metal and wood. This attachment along with the Bauer saw seems to fill that niche. I have a small workshop that has to accommodate several hobbies.

🤗Will be buying this bad boy and will use it for the vertical solution only. Will use the table as a template to make a much larger 12" x 15" table. Really happy i saw this and based on that very affordable price no need to waste time and money making my own vertical stand.👍🏾
It's kind of funny that a lot of other brands rebranded it with their name and color scheme and jack the price through the roof. Hopefully consumers are smart enough to see that those other brands are hoping that they are a bunch of stupid m........fers and will buy the same exact thing at their ridiculous prices.

As a guy who bought this. I cut some 12 gauge square tubing worked pretty well with the chopping feature.
The table is fine it's enough for small jobs or small piece adjustments. Turning it on takes some getting used to but overall ok. Cutting square requires adjustments you'll be messing with the nobs and that takes forever.
Overall it's heavy but portable enough if you do field work this is dope . I would recommend as the features it provides at the price is amazing

Have you cut angle iron or tubing at a 45 degree angle?
I am pretty new to doing shop work like this and I know I want to be able to do this and I also know my skill level at figuring out solutions to things like this is ....low..haha

Do use the chopsaw part of it much? Or do you think it would be better to just get a dedicated upright mount from another company that doesn’t take up that extra space on the front of your bench and also has a slot in the table for a miter guage?

    • @denoftools
      @denoftools  8 місяців тому

The front hangs down out of the way and hasn't bothered me at all. It's its an issue for you... take it off. Most of these cuts are very small as such I've never felt the need for a miter gauge.

Great video as usual!! Really love all the tool comparisons you include! I've watched several vids about this stand. I'm going to get one today if my local HF has one when I get there (website says they do). A gamechanger? I think so. I'm not doing production work or anything. Just a dude that makes and fixes stuff from time to time. I think this will be very awesome.
I have a corded Bauer saw for now. I'd like to go cordless but I don't want to switch to another cordless platform (switching to Hercules: one battery, charger, and the tool total about $300 which is what Dewalt tool only is). I already have Dewalt tools and several batteries. I may get the Dewalt cordless band saw Model #DCS374B. The online manual for this stand suggests the Dewalt will fit.
I've read several comments about the Bauer trigger not lining up on this stand easily. If I use my Bauer saw with this I think I'll get a cheap foot pedal switch.

OMG…🤦🏻 I’ll bet that thing cut PERFECTLY SQUARE every time. As a matter of fact I bet all the manufacturers of the world will soon dump their multiple 10s of thousands of dollars worth of bandsaws and just use these instead…
    JUNK.

I have bought this and was going to buy a Milwaukee CORDLESS portable bandsaw but I am starting to wonder if that is going to be a pain because supposedly the Milwaukee doesn't lock on.
A corded saw I assume would allow you to zip tie the trigger on and then use a foot pedal to turn it off and on - anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm sold! I was about to go to HF and get one. Of course, they're not in stock. I used to go to HF almost weekly. I can hardly remember the last time I went. I loved the coupons. Now, they're almost worthless. Staff shortage means long lines. Not much fun anymore.
