I've taken care of my skin probably since I was 18 and I use sun cream 60 SPF every time I'm outside. I'm from Australia originally and Australian sun is really damaging to the skin. Trust me using sun cream is a must to stop aging your skin. I'm 70 now and I have virtually no wrinkles on my face at all and I look a lot younger, it all comes down to good genes, but a big part of it is staying out of strong sunshine & using sunscreen. BTW, the food looks amazing on Jeju.
Considering the high emphasis on beauty and having the lightest skin possible being the top goal I was surprised that using a sunblock or higher value of sunscreen wasn't one of the top steps in the daily skincare routine and makeup routine for 90+% of the people in Asian countries especially in the group of people above the poverty level and in the younger generations. I started using it after my father had his first spot of skin cancer removed and treated. He had to use a prescription sunblock with over a 50 spf. Because I had a couple of bad sunburns as a child and in my twenties I was very careful about making sure to protect my skin. The last 2 times I had applied a high level sunscreen and I still got one of the worst sunburns of my life and it hurt to have anything touching my skin and taking a shower was torture. The last time was when my daughter was18 months old and we were on vacation and had spent the day at the lake in this mountain camping place that was part of the National Parks in the US. I didn't look like I had gotten sunburned until I went to take a shower with my daughter in the cabin we were staying in. The water hitting my skin was extremely painful. I was surprised because I had used a lot of sunscreen throughout the day and I still got burned. Over the next few years I noticed that I would start turning red after being outside for 5-10 minutes. Some of the medications I took made me more sensitive to sunlight and getting a sunburn.
