Chania is a town on the north-west coast of the Greek island of Crete. It is known for its 14th-century Venetian harbour, narrow streets and seaside restaurants. The harbour is dominated by a 16th century lighthouse with Venetian, Egyptian and Ottoman motifs in its architecture. Opposite the lighthouse is the Maritime Museum, which displays ship models, naval paraphernalia and themed photographs. The former monastery of St. Francis now houses an archaeological museum
