    The origin of this iconic Bidadi thatte idli shop dates back to the 1950s when it came into existence as a tiny village eatery in the middle of nowhere (then), steaming and serving large plates of the acrey idli, an early precursor to the modern day thatte idli. What makes Sri Shiva Darshana Shashi Thatte Idli Hotel the most popular stop on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway today though is the owning family’s commitment to its culinary legacy over five generations. I stop by for a chat and to taste the idli that in a manner of speaking has put Bidadi on the food lovers’ map.
    Thatte Idli
    The thatte idli is pillowy, it is as “soft as air” and breaks under the effect of gravity! Definitely order the butter with the idli, it’s a premium worth paying. The butter seeps through the porous structure of the fragile idli and makes for a bite that melts the moment you place it in your mouth. The chutney delivers a potent chilli punch, the potato saagu is creamy and provides for respite from the spicy yet addictive red chutney. The masala vada makes for a savoury interlude whilst tasting the idli. On the whole, this is an idli that is worth driving 50 kilometres for!

      I have been to this outlet, this guy is extremely rude and he cribs even for additional butter. I agree though that his food really tastes very well, but you can't ignore behavior and courtesy.

    Kripal,
    My first Thattai Idli at Bidadi was 48 years back when I went to Mysore on my honeymoon.😀
    Believe it or not, weekly once one day is reserved for Thattai idli breakfast .
    My breakfast in US is still Idli . Dosai are reserved for dinner.!!
    Loved this episode and reminded me 14th June of 1972.
    Ps.
    At that time, Thattai idli was larger and we were served Gatti chutney.

    In most establishments, especially in Karnataka, people just visit the restaurant for the hospitality, they really take good care of customers and even the food is mind-blowing. Never thought would get such good food in such a small area when I was young. But now, I only visit old establishments - because OLD IS GOLD.

    In 2013, my family travelled in Karnataka through IRCTC package. On our journey from Bengaluru to Maddikere early in the morning, our Taxi driver stopped at this particular Thatte idli shop and all of us tasted hot and soft Thatte idli and vade and got mesmerized. After about an year, I was transferred to Bengalore and lived there with family. Whenever we travelled to Mysore with friends and relatives for sightseeing, we made it a point to stop here and introduce the flavour of Thatte idli to all. 👍

    Karnataka has so many cities , places and tasty eateries/restaurants there that if you cover them all , one lifetime is not enough Sir ! Kripal sir , if possible show some travel places also to places u go outside Bengaluru and budget hotels to stay . Miss u Namma Bengaluru

    Do they really use kuchchulakki only ? In the ratio of 1 kg kuchchulakki and 250gm urad dal nothing else. Because I tried it didn't come out like this.

    I enjoyed thatte here in 2013 on my way to Namdhari fresh huge farms in bidadi. Satguru uday singh who follows Namdhari sikh religion takes care of farm n under his supervision fresh produces grows n sells under brand name NAMDHARI FRESH a popular veggie store in bangalore.

    They are very genuine, once we had visited them for breakfast around 9am and by that time their medu vada got over and only masala vada was available but when the owner got to know about this within few hours we had hot fresh crispy vadas at our plate, customer service is at par with Bangalore standards, whenever we travel to melukote our breakfast point is either Taza Thindi or Shiva Darshana Thatte idli....

    It's a very good thatte idli and masal vada , The way ur expression while ur eating it's makes us tempt to try once.
    Recently I have tried a breakfast in Sai Guru Veg near Mahalakshmi layout Bangalore, really u will find a alternative thatte idli , super chutney and masal vada in Bangalore, really u will feel very much pleasure after trying the super chutney

    Supposedly the Maharaja of Mysore and his entourage stopped at Bidadi on the way to Bangalore for their refreshment.
    Bidadi mane means kitchen in Kannada, that's how the place got its name.
    Some of the cooks are said to have set up their eateries post independence.

    No one explains the way you do for every item you eat. You do absolute justice to the food. You are a legend 😊. Definitely going to try this when I visit Bengaluru. I live in London but do make idli. Dosa etc but obviously nowhere close to Thatte idly who had😢

    Bidadi was one of the places where Bengaluru International Airport was supposed to come up .Would have been a perfect location serving Mysuru also simultaneously giving Mysuru direct international connectivity. Also would have served Kodagu, Nanjangud ,Hassan ,Kollegal .Tumkur
    But then Devanahalli got selected making it useful only for bengaluru

    I had the privilege to feast the Thate Idli only once in my life with some ghee and gunpowder on top but trust me it wasn't even close to this one ..it do looks like holding a rice cloud and the soo soft and tender texture of this makes my stomach drools for it ...Ohh myy when he dipped that idli in the chutney and the way it shreded gives my mouth a foodgasm 😂😂😂 Keep it up sir you and your whole team for all the awesomeness you are spreading 👍👍🙏

    You might want to visit Pavitra Hotel Kyatsandra on Bengaluru- Pune Highway.
    Tumakuru is synonymous with Thatte Idli.
