    We used to be forced to work 6-7 days a week at the plant I work for. We’ve been on a four day work week for two years and got decent raises with the opportunity to volunteer extra day’s of overtime. The job I once hated, I now love and my coworkers feel the same as well.

    I really hope this catches on. We need MORE than two days off from work, especially if you have a family. We need 1 day for socializing and hobbies, one day for rest, and one day for taking care of responsibilities out side of work. Trying to cram that all into two days is exhausting. There’s more to life then just working until we die!
    Also I love the made up cons of a 4 day work week, just a bunch of business owners spreading a false narrative because it COULD effect their personal profits, despite it improving the lives of their workers and their families.

    • @SL-lz9jr

      The hotel workers and garbage workers, etc excuses made me laugh. As if it would be hard to give those same workers a four day work week and simply pay them overtime for working an additional day or hiring more workers to rotate the shifts. They already do that anyway on jobs that require round the clock service or seven days a week service. I used to be an on call employee at a homeless shelter. There were plenty of on call and rotational staff, especially if anyone called out sick.

    • @yamchayaku
      @yamchayaku 2 роки тому +18

      I agree on that. Back then the 40 hour work week was viable because the family would have one person dedicated to home responsibilities such as bills, errands and taking care of the children while the other goes to work and provides financial stability to the family, while being paid enough to feed and house a family of 4.
      Now the dynamics have changed, where both parents have to work, with no one being able to tend to home responsibilities, forcing them to dedicate their weekends to doing that, leaving little to no free time for themselves. Then there's traffic. That's a good waste of 10-12 hours a week going to and from work that's coming out of YOUR pocket.
      There needs to be a labor movement because the working and living environment has changed dramatically

    • @raventhorX
      @raventhorX 2 роки тому +7

      It makes it even more difficult if you actually do have the weekends off as often certain important things you need to take care of might be closed. I told my job at some point I'm only available 4 days, because overtime is not allowed. So being understaffed I would end up staying late alone in the office. It's unacceptable I would stay after hours late and I did not get paid any overtime at all. But I was told I had to complete my work task regardless. . I had to fight for a 4 day work week and it forced my employer to hire a part time help. I work for a large medical center owned by private equity firm so I don't care what the corporate higher ups think. I refuse to overwork myself and not get paid overtime while the private equity firm that owns us makes their big money. I admit it's hard to get an employer to let you work 4 days. It was for me. But now when I stay late it's only if I choose to and if so I'm not working for free after hours and now I get paid for the total hours I work. I encourage everyone to try and fight for a four day work week.

That Thursday really help me regain and prevented me from having a bummed out tired and lazy attitude by Friday. Instead my productivity at work improved on Friday and I noticed a difference from my other work mates. I was energized, refreshed and they were sluggish, and lack productivity. Matter of fact it changed my life so much I reduced my work week to 2 DAYS A WEEK. That was to much time for me so now I’m at a 3 day work week and 4 days weekend ! While I'm for 4 day work weeks, the real time saver for maximum productivity and budget boosting is just simply letting people work remote forever if they are able to. I've done group surveys inside companies and on average at least 72% of the employees said they'd prefer to work from home and it wasn't a comparison to hybrid or at all for going back to an office.

    Some things people need to know:
    -An employee's productivity falls after the third hour.
    -By Thursday and Friday, employees don't care much about the task, they're more focused about getting through the day and getting into the weekend.
    -The later half of the week consists of gossiping or talking about non-related workstuff and very much less of being productive.
    -When an employee is burnt out, they'll just pretend to look busy to get their boss off their backs.
    If you say you have not done any of this, you're a liar.
    Literally every company that I have visted when I used to work IT has the majority of the employees engaging in the above. And I have visited a LOT of companies. The funny thing is that even though the productivity falls significantly by Friday, the company is still expected to pay the full amount for the hours worked. I also say this because I also don't care about getting the work done when I'm exhausted... All I would care is just going home and sleep.
    Give your workers the Friday off. They'll thank you for it. And you're not really going to be losing any productivity anyway because there really isn't any on that day to begin with.

    We work four ten hour days where I am and I'm still much happier than when I worked five right hour days. What I'd really like to see is four six hour days. It would mean running a tight ship. Use the restroom before you start work. Have one 15 minute break mid shift to use the restroom again and then get off work just in time for lunch. Every one would have to stay busy. No talking. No internet. No phone. The government would have to side with management when requiring that workers stay busy.

    The great thing a bout this bill is that it would require employers to pay the existing salary or wage so that the employee works less but does not loss money. This would be great and then when business and service need to operate 5,6,7 days a week can hire more workers and give options for scheduled days off. We also need access to mandated levels of guaranteed paid vacation and sick time as well. Becuase work should be what we do but not all we do

    This would be a huge step toward a reasonable work/life balance in every profession. Have a few more thoughts to share if anyone wants to hear them.
    Chronic Understaffing and everything that has resulted from it would have to be addressed, (Unrealistic Expectations, being Set Up to Fail, being compared to previous generations and their work ethic without the advantages they had, etc.). Actual training that works in the real world needs to come back. Achievable goals to boost confidence and morale benefits everyone.
    Also the division of labor would need to be reconstructed. I'm not an expert, but do believe it'd be worth the effort. Win/win in the long run. Anyone who wants to debate or contribute to the conversation is welcome. Please remember I'm entitled to an opinion just like you and will delete the whole thread if this gets out of hand.
    Edit: I'm not opposed to new technology. I think people who have been overworked for years will realize it frees up their time to do other tasks. They're more likely to embrace it rather than feel threatened. In some cases they could decide to move onto something better suited for them.

      @@CyclingMartialartswithMusic 4 day work weeks are supposed to retain the same pay as a 5 week cycle. They considered this because workers tend to be more productive in the first three days of the week, with the third day being the least productive. By the fourth and fifth day, productivity tends to be a mere fraction of the first day of the week, yet employers have to pay the full amount for the hours worked.
      My personal experience dealing with many companies and leading teams, I've already learned that people are only productive for the first 2 hours of the workday. The remaining hours, people's productivity starts to fall off and nearly drops to zero by the final hour. This is also true on Fridays when employees tend to focus more on making it to the weekend than to actually focus on their work.
      If your employees are good at completing their tasks before their hours are up, just let them rest instead of piling more work on them. Give them that friday off. Making them stay after finishing a job does the company no favors, and it ultimately just burns out the employee.
      Also, if an employer can not trust their employees to complete their jobs, that's the employer's fault for not properly interviewing and screening capable employees. It's symbiotic relationship and it seems employers have forgotten that.

    They are saying "it will raise inequality because poor people get paid by the hour" but why do poor people get paid by the hour? Because the greedy business people don't want to hire full-time personnel that they would have to pay a salary and give benefits to, so they make the majorityof their work force either half-time by-the-hour employeesor even worse "contractors" that aren't even considered employees. So just pass a law saying that at least 90% of all employees of a company *necessarily* have to be *full-time salaried employees* and watch their *only* argument against the 4-day week fall to the ground along with people's quality of live improving *immediately.*

There are variables of course but imagine how McDonalds would have to adjust to keep the store open 7 days a week when an employee is working 4 days instead of 5. You need another person to fill that gap. Both need to have higher base pay to maintain the same yearly gross and even though McDonald's can afford it, they aren't likely to do it.
