I'd like to see a comparison between the Cutlass and the PRS John Mayer S type.

I like the noise reduction of the music man, as well as the weight, and tremolo system. The MM sounds better clean, but the tones of the Fender with distortion sound better to me.

Cutlass is more alive sounding. Playability of Music Man is always preferred over Fender for me. Easy choice. MM is a clear winner.

Just got and played live today for the first time the new Cutlass HSS with roasted maple neck. I love that guitar. I had my mind set on a Fender Elite as on paper it seems great with the 9.5 - 14 radius etc. but I just could not bond with it. Next tried the Eric Johnson strat and it was quite nice - but then I tried the Cutlass and was immediately going places musically I had not gone before. It is the first guitar I have owned that does not seem to fight me in any neck position. I am a utility player and versatility is necessary for me. I did find I had to completely restructure my pedal gain structure to get the sweetness dialed in. Another fantastic feature is the uniformity of volume in all positions. Just an all around great guitar. I have an Elektron analog drive that was kind of noisy but it pairs with the Cutlass beautifully.

Music Man and G&L make consistently good high end production S-types and can't be beat in that price point imo. I just got a Cutlass and it's buttery, I think EBMM is on top for modernized S-types in general.

I have the Sterling Cutlass HSS. The carved neck joint is a thing of beauty. The weight is amazing too. It feels closer to a Duo Sonic in weight than a strat.

Just that active circuit on the music man alone was enough for me to buy one. I LOVE traditional single coils and I cant quite stand stacked ones, but man the noise is just too much at times. Also, the MM with those 60s voiced coils pretty much nails a Jimi or Mayer tone effortlessly.

Cutlass sounds thin and flat where Fender has beefy and rich sound - beautiful for my ears. At the end of the day - the sound is what inspires you... Also flatter neck is what I prefer. Is it possible to change pickups for MM?

Everything about that MM screams quality. The trem, tuners, neck, noise reduction... except the sound. Sounds thin compared to the Fender. Perhaps tweaking the Fractal would take care of that but on the surface tone goes to the Fender.

I wanted to like the Cutlass sound more than did. The problem for me was that it seemed to have fret buzz and a brittle sound.

The tone knob definitely must be used with the Cutlass. Do you think it’s possible to wire the singles in series or would that interfere with the electronic system in there. Looking at a used SSS Cutlass but ain’t sure I want to squeeze the trigger yet.

Neck dive refers to the headstock end diving,,, as in down. What dives up?

Seems to me the mm has beefier bass but the highs are kind of lost, to my ears at least. The strat sounds cleaner to me, you can separate each note and the sound is a reminisce of classic sounds.

I'm all in on MusicMan, I own an Axis, and it is a great guitar. I also own a 91' Strat Plus Deluxe that would be a better "head to head" comparison to the Cutlass, as it has Lace Sensors (no hum), a roller nut and Schaller locking tuners. It was pretty obvious in the video what you would choose, seeing as how you have 3 MM's sitting on the stand in the background. This was a no contest between a basic USA Standard Strat Vs. a MusicMan. The one thing I didn't like about the MusicMan was that it started cancelling out sustain that you want to be there. The Lace Sensors don't do that.

If I were gigging I would have to go with the cutlas for the silent circuit. I’m aware that there are alternatives for hum canceling but that one seems nice and tidy

I just bought Cutlass CT 30 and of course I think it's a lot warmer than a fender guitar.. though then again on Musicman Sterling Neck middle it cuts a lot of middle
