@Thomasfrank is an OG productivity and self-improvement creator. He's been on the platform for a long time, and the success he's managed to achieve with his digital product business is one that every artist should take notes on.
Maybe selling Notion templates aren't your thing (and that's fine!) but think about what you could achieve by focusing on simply creating the BEST thing possible. The best channel possible, the best product possible, the best customer experience possible, etc.
If you focus on quality the rest will fall into place.

one big takeaway is he was not an overnight sucess, it took him time to come up with this as well as build his audience.I feel like a piece of that is lost in this era

Wow I honestly needed to hear this. It really helped shift my mindset. I’m pretty good at anything art related: drawing, painting, making music, cooking, etc. but I struggle to make money with these talents and skills. I opened an Etsy shop in 2020 and it did pretty well at first but now I don’t get many sales and I don’t enjoy drawing the same things as much anymore. I think it’s time for me to reevaluate and stop trying to force the same things to work that worked 3 years ago. It makes me excited to think that I can potentially make something for people that can help change their lives which will in turn change my life 😊

My business model is "try everything and do everything!" If you have an idea just try it. You literally don't know what doors will open for you until you try.
I didn't know Thomas Frank did a thing for creators! Definitely be checking that out. But this video didn't just teach me that, it reminded me that you're 'allowed' to charge people not only for labor and other investments, but also based on what you think it's valued. And that building that value is also building a relationship with your customers and prospective customers. Thanks for the video!
Tank you so much, Kelsey, for mentoning that it doesnt have to be aducation! I think a lot of people kinda gloss over this by all of ther talk about value. It is always aducation that is brought up as an example. Putting a smile on peoples face is equaly important, but it is never really mentioned. I remember how a German Lets Player who groe super fast told me that he feels bad about taking monney for doing some stupid LP´s and horror content. I was like dude, you always manage to make me laugh. No matter how hard my day was, i watch one of your "stupid" videos and feel good again. thats value. i think it is important that more people get to hear that. So, thank you once again for bringing that up
I sell digital downloads of my Christian based art, they serve as an everyday reminder for people to say encouraged. The point I took away from this video is my prices are probably too low. I felt to get sales going I needed to make them dirt cheap (less than three dollars) without realizing that’s probably making them look low value. This is art I creat myself and I work hard on it and I love it. I’m excited to raise my prices and feel confident about that. I need to believe in my product before I expect anyone else to.

I honestly believe most people on earth will never make $100,000 a month from selling their own products, no matter how long they put in the work or how hard they try. The world just isn’t set up for everyone to succeed this way. Most people will be exploited and the money, wealth, and resources will go up, not down and around. But, on a more positive note, I did like the end point about being super passionate about what you’re creating and wanting to do your very best to make the best product possible if you’re planning on selling it to your specific audience. I think everyone can apply this to their lives in anything they create that they may wish to sell.
If you're putting in years of work into it someone else is profiting off your investments, so money cycles around in an ordered fashion. In a simple way suppliers, sellers, and buyers. It is pretty difficult to fail if you try for a while, especially after you learn the different way of earning income.
You can do UA-cam for years and monetization will favor you because views will increase as your skill and quality increases. Gaining viewers means you can promote affiliate or other useful resources or direct them to shop. UA-cam basically gets paid for advertising and you get paid for bringing in more viewers. So that money comes from already big company promoting products and cycles down.
It works the same way for music you buy equipment, take classes, make music, and get paid for views because Spotify makes money off of ads, and you get paid for bringing views. The longer you stay in the field the higher your chances of success because money and services are built to flow in a circle. And it's major companies.
Basically anything that involves time and profits off of engagement and views is scalable since major companies are willing to pay for your attention.
There are essential jobs that people must take for our society to run, however there are very few people who are willing to start a business so you can definitely make 100k if you've put in the work and time to learn. I rarely ever run into any entrepreneurs, meaning there are not as many spots running for 100k as you would think
I meant 100,000 dollars per year. Most people will never earn that amount in a year. Many people can earn that amount added together after many years. But 100,000 a year isn’t going to happen for most people.
@@GeorgiaBackyardExplorer the main reason why people won't make 100, 000 a year is because they never attempt it. Of course it's going to be unrealistic to earn 100,000 if you never start. But like you mentioned many people choose to live their lives without earning 100, 000 because they either have limiting beliefs, or work in a field they're already passionate about, not because it isn't achievable. And since there are fewer people attempting to reach 100, 000 there are greater opportunities for those who embark in it due to lower competition. Even if you fail you develop an understanding for business and website management and other useful marketing tactics that are always in demand and can use that knowledge to leverage a better position in a work for hire job. And after realizing the way that money flows and analyze commercials, see how UA-camrs market, see how people sell courses and become aware of every way everyone is making money from your attention you'll want to reclaim it because you realize everyone is making money in various different ways.

Loved the video! I'm still trying to figure out what value I can provide and shifting my strategy (or creating one cause I don't have). I keep doubting myself and not starting, or starting and then backing off...

The thing is...I am not a teacher. I love sharing my artwork and every once in a while get a commission for emotes maybe once a year. I have anxiety socializing with new people and have a bad stammer around new people or people I don't see much. So a lot of these tips and strategies that you give don't apply to me. It's very hard to do a art business when you have a full time job outside of the home. I wish there was a video out there on how to do this art thing online and gain an audience while having a full time non art job that doesn't give you much time to work with when at home. I don't want to have my day job cause a burnout with my art.
Honestly, you don't even have to be an expert or even make spoken tutorials to provide value with your art. Like the video mentioned educational content isn't the only avenue you can choose, but you'd be surprised how many people just like seeing other artist's process. You can learn a whole lot just by studying someone's speedpaints. Content on improving your art and taking people along for the journey also seems to always be popular.
Good on you for doing commissions though, although I don't work, I am a student, so I find it really impressive that your able to fit that in occasionally! I've been planning to start making some money part time off of my artwork for a while now, but I knew I wouldn't be comfortable with taking commissions due to my schedule or making some kind of course / membership since I'm completely self-taught. Instead I'll be focusing on making adoptable character designs, bases, brush packs and stuff. Maybe you could find something similar that'd work for you?

What app do you use to edit your thumbnails?
It was APPOINT in my online career years ago when I had over 3000 subscribers. They were loyal they participated in discussions about the time being moved to the online community. I found out too late that I could monetize this in someway when I try to come back to it. Unfortunately I was told by UA-cam. that I needed to be more current in order to take advantage of things, so I got discouraged and only until now am I back. My problem is I can encourage people but not enough. It seems for them to buy products for me. I did tremendously well as a caricatures entertainer doing live work for parties, special events, street fairs, etc. but I’m having trouble transitioning and translating that into printed products. I think my work best suited for posters and stickers which I am developing but now I’m at across from my knowing how to proceed

Kelsey, I haven't found contact to you but I hope you will see this comment. Limbic Retraining and neuroplasticity helps with fatigue. I suffered for many years and doing limbic retraining and already feeling much better. Anyone who is reading this try limbic system retraining. Most of the symptoms are caused by chronic stress. Sounds cheesy but it's so true! Take care everyone :)

probably your own website! Etsy or Gumroad could work. I think Thomas Frank uses his own website and a tool called Lemon Squeezy

With all the free information he putt in his youtube video, I wonder what is in his paid course ? For real, is there anything left that worse money after all of these free tutorial that already covers like 95% of the stuff you need (maybe more)?
I think the idea here is that while you could put time and effort into your own version of the making the notion template he sells, using his free tutorials, most people probably do not want to put tens of hours worth of work into doing this. that's my guess!

@@KelseyRodriguez one thing tho... If you are watching his channel is because you want to know how to do this stuff yourself. That the channel's goal. So you are not the ideal client for his paid template. So who are these clients?
They are two different audiences and he's catering to both. There are always people who will want to do it themselves, but there also those who don't have time to do it and want it all made for them by an expert.
For me, I sell plushies I make by hand and also the sewing patterns to make those same things along with some free tutorials. There are those who know how to sew and prefer the making part, and those who don't and who'd rather have it made by someone with years of experience.
What was the point when art turned into a get reach quick scheme. Respect for the few artists who are still talking about creating art on their art channel

Mmmm I got thinking and How does just art give value if it's something that is very personal to what people believe it is valuable? How could a plain drawing or painting on a canvas or print is valueable on it self, is it the few copies or rarity? or do I have to give a lot of freebies as stated in the vid? @@curiouslittlefrog
