Agreed! I keep snacks in mine lol. My room is in the attic and I don't feel like going down two flights of stairs to the kitchen every time I want a snack :D
Hi Laura! I've been binging your videos for a heck of a long time while preparing for college apps... I've just been accepted into CalArts, and I blame part of it on your tips! Thank you so much, you're amazing!
Hi Laura...I’ve been watching your videos for quit awhile now...and I just want to say thank you. Also I want to thank you for all the great advise you offer (just wish I had your talent). But to be perfectly honest what I love is how personable you are...I don’t think I have ever watched one of your videos that hasn’t made me smile or laugh out load, you help to make my day a little brighter, thank you. On a side note is Mabel warning up to the pup more...in the videos she seems to look as though she’d just assume he disappears. I hope that she’s having more fun and playing more with him...everybody needs a pup in there life. And again thank you again for sharing your life and experience and expertise with us.
OMG the light therapy lamp i actually got for me because im in the dark all day to work on my tablet art but i immediately discovered that it had excellent light in general for my room and space :) Love it! (i got the circadianoptics black and white skinny one off amazon. its a perfect size and made well plus it has 3 brightness settings)
Everyone else seems to like those wider grips and pens that come with wide grips but I strained my hand so badly on them inbetweening full time for months I had to switch to my non dominant hand. Once I stopped using the grips haven't had a problem. Been preferring smaller pens for years, if you put some kind of a texture sticker on them you can hold them lightly and the weight is better as well.
I just found this channel, and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I got my first drawing tablet six months ago, and I'll definitely be using some of these products for my digital art! Thanks for uploading this!!
It took me quite a while to convince myself that a Herman Miller chair (Embody) was worth it but by the time you price in the tax write offs and depreciation, 12 year guarantee and what it does for one's delicate tooshie… the ~$100/year for those 12 years before the deductions seems rather reasonable. That's what I tell myself anyway! 😂
Thank you so much for all the info, Laura! I really love your work and your videos always have such a positive and nice vibe to it. I really love that!
Something I really liked was a collapsible desk from Walmart for like $22. The angle of the legs allows you to pull it almost all the way to your chair, and the height and angle are mildly adjustable. I pair this with a folding tablet stand and I can work anywhere. Couches, random lawn chairs, the like.
Wow! I’ve got a lot of this already, but some was definitely new to me! Thanks. I recently changed all of my recessed lights to LIFX bulbs that can change color temperature and be dimmed, and can be controlled individually with Alexa or other home assistants. I turn on just the ones that don’t reflect on my cintiq when I’m working.
OOO that sounds really cool! my office just has a really old light fixture that I can't access the bulb (it's directly above my cintiq anyway), but in the future when I have recessed lights in my office that sounds amazing. I had no idea recessed lights could be controlled individually! It would be ideal to just turn off the singular lights that hit my cintiq!
i love your videos Laura. Thanks for the ideas on what to ask for my birthday. I'm defently going to be putting that lap desk on my list. Also hopefully mabel is getting along with her new sister now.
Personally prefer the Steelcase Gesture over the Herman Miller Chair, the armrest on it are highly adjustable and smooth that it's perfect for painting especially if combined with an Cintiq arm mount. Light Therapy is a genius solution, not sure why I haven't tried that yet.
I really love that I-Pad lap table! My neck always gets so sore looking down especially since I do it for hours on end. Thanks for the recommendation!!!
Oooh, I think I'm gonna have to get some of these! As far as product recommendations go, I'd say make sure your desk is strong enough to deal with an ergonomic arm. I have destroyed a couple IKEA tabletops with them, since the clamps strain against the weight of the cintiq and it would dig into the particle board of the tabletop. I've gotten a Jarvis adjustable desk since then, which is very pricey but working out pretty well so far!
ooh that's a really good point! my particle board ikea desks could not handle it. my current desk is ikea but it's plastic! it's actually separating at the seams, I should probably look at Jarvis desks for my next one!
One thing I decided to get into because I’ve been at my desk endlessly these days is getting some air plants. I have no other plants but these but it’s seemed to help a little bit with the mental health aspect. Thanks for the tip on the ergo +, and the laptop/book stand things. Will definitely be investing in all of those 🥴

@@lulusketches ahhh, good news all round, and especially excellent to know that it's now also in the hands of your art director. Haha, I also have an ottoman under my desk since many years and I have a thick bodied pen grip from Wacom which I love so hard, but unfortunately you cannot use the side switches anymore so I always have to pens at work... very unsatisfying. Wacom never reacted on my plea to produce the product with a slider adapter. The fullfilment of a dream!
Hello, I just needed a piece of information.... I am 14 and I want to be an animator but I suck at portraits and realistic sketching, so is it really necessary to learn these for animation?
you don't have to do portraits, but you'll need a foundational knowledge of human anatomy and you have to be able to draw quickly and accurately! I would recommend figure drawing courses
Coincidence, I've recently ordered a book stand for drawing because of my neck and back and also graphite has kind of shining which annoys me so I need to look at my paper straight right in front of me, and I'm so excited to use it! Guess I'll send to all my artists friends to buy it and I'll get blocked- lol
I've seen artists go ham on their Wacom pens with duct tape or electric tape, just bulking up the barrel. Been thinking of doing that myself, my fingers hurt so bad after drawing for a few hours.
@@lulusketches I know, right ? I'll have a look though ! I bought a cheap silicone handle for my apple pencil but I still find it too thin (and my cat likes to play with it...)
What’s your take on matte screen protectors? I really want to remove mine but I’m worried I’ll hate drawing on glass lol. Also, does your Cintiq have a glass or matte finish? ♥️
The ottoman under the desk is freaking genius.

Another good tip for small tablets: use a normal school book stand. they're super cheap, don't break easily and makes is a lot more comfortable 2 draw
