Good video thanks , do you know anything about bleeding the air out of the coolant system . Seen one video saying air in the system may damage the EGR because of trapped air in the EGR cooler.
I just looked over my manual and I do not see anything about bleeding the air out of the system. The expansion/surge tank that sits on top will allow the air slowly escape as the engine warms up. I personally have never done (bleed the system) that except for running the engine until the thermostat opens, that allows the coolant to drop to its correct level and then I add more coolant accordingly. That is what the manual says to do. This way the coolant level will be correct and you can verify there are no coolant leaks. Hope this helps.
Hey do you have to drain the coolant to change the pump? And also you said that you were changing it because you had fuel in the coolant I have the leak but no fuel in the coolant should I still change the pump or only change the gasket? Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
Neville Freeman yes you would need to drain the coolant in order to replace the coolant pump. Drain the radiator coolant and drain the coolant from the engine. In order to remove the engine coolant there is a drain plug on the engine block of the driver side. I between the oil module and fuel module. You will need a 19 mm socket, an extension and a ratchet in order to loosen and a hose to collect the approximate 2 gallons of coolant that will come out. This will make it easier once you remove the coolant pump. I would recommend to replace the coolant pump and seal (seals come with pump btw). Forgot to ask, what year is the truck and how many miles?
Neville Freeman so it could be a two speed coolant pump. There are approximately 10 gallons of coolant that come out of the radiator and from the engine block approximately 3 gallons of coolant.
Neville Freeman yup. That is a two speed. If the pump looks good then I would just leave it unless it is leaking coolant. The seal rarely leaks, it is usually the coolant pump that leaks around the base of the pulley. Can I ask why you want to change the seal or replace the coolant pump?
Jeet Sarai no you don’t have to bleed the system. Start the engine and allow it run. I usually do this until the fan clutch engages. That is typically when the thermostat will open. By then all of the air should be out.
Once the pump is installed the pulley should free spin provided the belt is not installed. Once the belt is placed over the pulley then no, there is no free spin. This would be different for the variable speed water pump that the newer DD15 come with.
I have a issue would like some advice. Had what looks like dirt( black stuff in bottom of coolant tank)in my coolant, Changed coolant and it's still there and get more of the same black dirt. What could it be? Could it be injector cup O-ring is going bad and putting small amount fuel in my coolant r my EGR coolant going bad? Plus I have a very small coolant leak under the coolant pump.

It sounds you have a 2 speed water pump on the DD15. You need the software to see if it is reading. I don’t believe there is fuse. The speed is read by the MCM (engine computer). What is your truck doing?
As I drive the thermostat goes to the red line, I squeeze the hose for the water pump on the Driver side and I can squeeze it but on the pass side it’s really hot and can’t squeeze it ...
@@kordellnesbitt1913 could be thermostat, possibly the water pump is bad and not spinning. It is belt driven so the electric plugs are only for measuring speed. Does the fan turn on at or around 220?
Well, if you are doing this job yourself. Then the pump plus any additional antifreeze, pump runs about $150 plus 2 hours of labor. Every shop has a different labor rate. Ours is $80 an hour (approximately 2 hours), so roughly $310 (parts and labor) plus sales tax on any parts purchased.
