Those 14 hour days will be worth it in the long game but still Missed seeing you around as much mate. :-) Am beyond excited for your Room Haul. I am curious to see how big the collection is coming along. 🙂
I definitely went through a similar process. The world's Grant and the artists created were so out there that I thought that someone had to be high to enjoy it, and it actually put me off reading more of Grant's work. But other more grounded works had me come back and I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around.
Glad you enjoyed them :) trying to switch up my reviews so that it has a point beyond recommending the book at the end, but it's proving tricky for my next one haha! Thanks for watching the video mate! 🐶
Can’t wait to see you cover Captain America by Ed Bruabker one of my favorite eras for the character and kept up the 🔥 videos the new format is great!!
Thank you mate! It's definitely on the cards, so hopefully in the coming months :) these type of videos do take longer, but I'm glad you're enjoying them! Feels like I'm diving into the story more! Thanks for watching mate! 🐶
I'm very lucky as I have a full run of Morrison's Doom Patrol and it's a big influence on the TV show. Marcus the next Morrison epic is The Invisibles which I would like to see in Omnibus format. Kudos 👏 on another excellent video. Woof Woof!
Thank you for the kind words, especially as a fan of Doom Patrol :) currently scripting Arkham Asylum review, but Invisibles is for sure after and I'm very excited due to the drama with the Matrix! Thanks for watching the video! 🐶
I had a hard time reading Morrison's Doom Patrol for the first time because I really wanted it to be about something. As it turns out, it's just Morrison regurgitating ideas without them having to make much sense at all. When I finally understood the book isn't supposed to make sense, I started to enjoy it a lot more. So yes, it's supposed to be confusing by design, which didn't click with me at first. Some people over analyze it and make some big interpretations, but Morrison has said how people who "get" and analyze it are just missing the point, because there's nothing to get, it's about nothing. It's supposed to read like dreams, which is where most of the stories come from. The exception would be the last story, which does have a more typical structure and the weirdness is dialed down a lot in favor of landing the story.
I have a hard time with a lot of Morrison's bigger stuff. Most of his work reads like a dream sequence, often disjointed and non-coherent. He throws you straight into a situation and expects you to grasp what is happening. It wasn't until I read his JLA run that things finally started to click for me so I'll be giving everything another go again. I do however like some of his smaller works such as We3, Joe the barbarian, all-star superman, Arkham asylum etc.
@@DrakonR I do like most of the stuff I've read, but I do tend to be extra critical because of the amount of praise the books get pretty much by default just by being written by Morrison. I did like Doom Patrol, I just didn't love it. Rereads are not off the table.
Weird is Morrison's thing. Like in his JLA run Superman just randomly had a blue suit. No explanation. I get that people wear different clothes everyday, but a superhero costume is different.
That gives me hope in case I do revisit this series later down the line. Don't think I've ever read a series that gave me such indication that the second read would be drastically different. Thanks for the comment though, and I hope you enjoyed the video! 🐶
@@MaddoggComicsthe show is really good, they did a good job making you care for the characters. I haven’t read the comics yet, but I know like the Morrison run lol. The show has the weirdness, and the cast are really good. The show is so underrated, is probably my favorite superhero tv show.
Maybe I just have a lot more useless knowledge than most but I have never had to look anything up to understand a Morrison book. I don't even find them that weird, its just a lot of theories in one space. I have watched a lot of his talks, so I think I understand him quite well. Good to see you not holding back on sharing your experience. Personally I think Animal Man is the most accessible to the general public and Invisibles is his best work.
@@HighlandG Nameless was made deliberately obscure. It's not stated as such, but it's the only comic I have seen where the author includes a piece at the end with "keys to the abyss," explaining the influences and providing lots of reference materials that might help understand the book.
Oh damn, I've got Invisibles next in my Morris-Thon pile and I'm quite hyped for it with all the comparisons with the Matrix! Hope you're doing well mate and thanks for watching the video! 🐶
Have to admit I struggle with a lot of Morrisons stuff, it’s just to off the wall at times for me. Not read this run though so after watching your vid I may give it a go!
I bought all three volumes of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol last year. It's one of my favorite comic book runs. Here's my top 10 favorite comic book runs 1. Joe Kelly's Deadpool 2. Geoff Johns' The Flash 3. Jason Aaron's Thor 4. Alan Moore's Saga Of The Swamp Thing 5. Garth Ennis' John Constantine Hellblazer 6. Donny Cates' Venom 7. Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol 8. Daniel Way's Wolverine 9. Marv Wolfman & George Perez's The New Teen Titans 10. Jeff Lemire's Green Arrow
Knew it was going to be a great deep dive when I saw the 50 minute runtime. Thanks for the video and I hope you know how much your content helps someone that is newer to comics. My wallet isn't a fan of you though. Lol
Tryhard edgelord retcon hack writing. There is not a genuine bone in Morrison’s body. He isn’t weird. He just tries really hard to be weird…. He’s a poser….Let’s make the main protagonist a complete sociopath that tried murdering his colleague then ruined his teammates lives. And let’s have gay beastiality love triangle…… If you want the real doom patrol and read REAL comics (and not some hack failed novelist)read the PreCrisis stuff!

Only Doom Patrol Omni I don’t have … funny that
Great video!

I wasn’t too confused by the weird stuff cause I watched the doom patrol show before checking out the comic
Was working at a re-store and found the whole 3 vol collection
Hard to jump back in when i go to work, ill finish it and lyk
