I like how this is almost exactly as long as the Lusitania sank.
Ok
Cuz this is 17:32 mins the Lusitania sank in 18 minutes hope this helps!😊
The Lusitania sank in just 18 minutes. After being struck by just one torpedo.
Cuz it is the Lusitania sank in 18 minutes hope it helps!
I was thinking that
Those animations are crazy. People smiling or laughing as they're about to die.
This is such a tragic and disturbing story. Yet it’s actually real. It’s horrifying to believe that the Lusitania sunk in just 18 minutes. This should be adapted into a movie!
I agree!
There is a film on here called 'Murder on the Atlantic', about the sinking. It is very good and, from what i have researched, very true to fact.
My grt grandfather was one of the helmsman and had come off his shift and gone below deck when the torpedo hit, he was killed. The helmsman shown in the film is called Hugh Johnston. He stayed in touch with my family for years afterwards.
Yeah, agree, the Germans should be ashamed of themselves

I'm 66 years old. My grandfather, born and raised in Brooklyn, was 21 in 1915 when the Lusitania went down. Although I share his name, I didn't know him, I only met him once and he died when I was 11. I knew he had fought in WWI, but I had assumed it was in the U.S. Army. It wasn't until I was 35 in 1992 that I discovered he had fought in the British army, not the U.S. Army. When I found his service records, I discovered he had enlisted in the British army at Manchester, UK five weeks after the sinking of the Lusitania. So I assume that this event is what prompted him to take the extraordinary step of crossing the Atlantic and enlisting so he could get into the fighting against Germany. But he never got to fight the Germans, as far as I can tell. He was shipped off to Gallipoli to fight the Ottoman Turks, and when that campaign ended he was stationed in the Middle East and fought the Turks there. I don't think he ever fought in Europe against the Germans, but I don't know that for sure.
Thanks Andrew! I wonder if he ever sailed on the Britannic.
@@neverstoplearning123 Was the Britannic a hospital ship for the entirety of her war service until she went down in 1916? I don't think my grandfather was ever wounded. If the Britannic was a troop ship at any point he may have sailed on her. BTW my grandfather married a local Manchester girl (my grandmother) in 1915. Their first child was my father. On Ancestry I have found several post-war manifests with their names on the passenger list. My grandfather also apparently made his living as a seaman on the Atlantic crossings, post-war. I have at least one seaman manifest with his name on it. The ships they sailed on include the SS Laurentic, RMS Celtic, RMS Caronia and SS Tuscania. They sailed on the Celtic more than once it seems.
The Laurentic record is from 1913; apparently my grandmother from Manchester sailed to New York when she was a teenager. This was before she met my grandfather. I have a record from the RMS Carmania as well. My grandfather, grandmother and their two small children - my father and his younger sister - sailed from Liverpool to New York on Aug 16 1919 on the Carmania.
I've seen many documentaries on the Lusitania (it's been an obsession for 55 years) and this, though relatively brief, is among the best. Thank you!
Amazing! Thank you Hugh!

You might have mentioned it's believed Churchill allowed this tragedy to occur to entice the US to join the war and help the British. Pretty big oversight there.
This theory is quite credible, but also heavily suppressed. The British (and their financiers) were desperate to get the US into the war...
The German Embassy warned ships that if they were displaying British flags they were in danger of being destroyed. Why didn’t the Captain take this seriously? Loss of life was devastating. I learned history today . I didn’t know anything about the Lusitania a beautiful vessel. Important to show passengers how to properly put on their life jackets. Great documentary . I enjoyed learning the facts today.
I glad you enjoyed it!
Warning doesn’t give an excuse for sinking a passenger liner. I hope the Sub commander has been punished for what he did.
You are right, I never want to stop learning about these ships!
Thank you OZgamerAB!
It’s crazy how this doesn’t get as much attention as the Titanic does
I am sure someone will make a movie about it one day.
maybe because it happened during "warring time" and sinking ships (war ships) are common, I think?
@@yuuharuna2702 what do you mean?
@yuuharuna2702 y9u are probably right and there was probably so much news about the war that it can only stay fresh on everyones mind for so long with everything happening.
Because this happened into war, it's not like the titanic who was a accident caused by human's pride and miscalculation... 😔 and of course: It was the Biggest/strongest boat "THE UNSINKABLE" 😂 SUNK On it FIRST crossing! The titanic is a symbol... A ship sunk into war is less than a symbol, at least this is call collateral damage...

Titanic and the Iowa class battleships were very close in size, well, weight that is.
But did you know that he was almost on board the ship himself? His daughter Degna wrote in her 1926 book, "My Father, Marconi," that he was offered a free ticket aboard the Titanic. But because his stenographer got seasick, Marconi opted to sail to the US on the Lusitania because he trusted that ship's stenographer more than Titanic's, Degna wrote
Interesting bit of info there, Travis.
@@axdertw The freezing water, dead darkness, no moon to reflect on the water, and no light, while the Lusitania sank during the day,
This was a good video.
But Lusitania's Funnels were painted a dark grey during the final voyage. And the white stripe on the hull was painted over after her sea trials.
Good to know! Thank you!
I believe that U-20 was completely justified in torpedoing the Lusitania because the British were breaking the “cruiser rules” and British submarines were blockading Germany with equal brutality. Plus the Lusitania was proven to be carrying a massive amount of war materials which justifies it as a legal target. The British were using the civilians especially the American passengers as human shields. The sinking was a tragic event however, every side of the story needs to be heard.
Good point Winlee!
I wouldn't use the word "justified" for this. Nothing justifies attacking a boat and killing 1,200 souls.
I understand your point, British are equally to blame for knowingly putting innocent lives at risk.
Would you say that if one of your family members was on board?
@@gwyneth7812 I’m just pointing out that the Lusitania wasn’t as innocent as you think. Britain made the war more brutal by violating the cruiser rules. Look it up.
@@winlee4884 Lusitania, the ship, is unable to make any decisions, nor were those on board, including the captain, who was taking orders from the admiralty. The man in charge was Churchill as first lord of the admiralty. He is the one with blood on his hands and was probably ordering violation of the cruiser rules for this very reason and his agenda - he wanted the US in the war. When you dig a bit deeper you find his name associated with JP Morgan around this time too ('all wars are bankers wars'). Who's betting Churchil also got a nice little 'dropsy' (as i have heard senior police call it)! You can bet your bottom dolllar that ship would not have sunk if Churchills family was on it, rather than mine!

The British used these innocent people as human shields. They wanted USA to be provoked into WW1. My partner’s mum lost her grandfather in engine rooms.
Nonsense. Lusitania was sunk because Germany had embarked on a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, and for no other reason.

Excellent! That's the next one I am working on. About half way done!
When U-20 came upon the Lusitania that fate full moment. The ship was close shore and given its size it would take time for it to sink. Satisfied with these variables her captain gave the order and a torpedo was fired. He looked through the periscope to see if it was a hit, it was and before he could say anything a second detonation occurred resulting in the ships sink in under 20 minutes. The crew in their journals spoke about his reaction to it and the horror on his face as he reported seeing the second detonation. When they arrived back in Germany he was meet by soldiers who took him to a tribunal at the Admiralty and after a week was pardoned of any wrongdoing. However in England newspapers spoke his return as if he was praised as a hero. With Kaiser Wilhelm personal congratulating him even though when news got to the Kaiser he was mortified at what had happened and was visibly saddened by the whole affair. It was this reason that Wilhelm was able to get the Admiralty to agree to the halting of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare.
Thanks for this!
I don't get it. Did he want to sink the ship or not? I mean the captain deliberately set up the submarine perfectly to fire at it, but didn't want to?
@@WorldofTanks48 he did how ever the information they had was that it had guns and Artillery not the ammunition for the weapons plus they except it to not go down as fast as they did (due to the ammunition detentions on board the the ship) he expected one explosion then the ship would slowly sink giving the passenger enough time to escape. What happened was the ammunition exploded causing a larger detention which resulted in the ship sinker faster then intended. He was traumatized not just for the deaths, but because he gave the order and it was his decision.
@@soundwavegamer2321 Interesting. Thank you for the information.

Churchill should've been tried for high treason after this
My 2nd Great Uncle Alfred Gardner died on the Lusitania
Nice video 👍
But man, that thumbnail is outrageous
Thank you Maurizio! I appreciate that.
I think I have a theory of how the ship sank so quickly. That secondary explosion after the torpedo hit the hull was probably ammunition for the British troops in the trenches over seas. How else could the Lusitania sink so fast after being struck by just one torpedo? But the real reason how she sank so fast remains a mystery to this day.
It could be Zach!
The Lusitania sank in fairly shallow water and there have been many surveys. The part of the cargo hold that was holding a limited amount of small arms ammunition is intact and the ammunition still there. So it definitely wasn't a munitions' explosion.
It was mostly likely a boiler explosion.
@@billlansdell7225 is that so… personally I think my theory is right but we never know. It could’ve been both!!
🛵 So maybe you're the first to think of that after a century.
You didn't mention her name was scrubbed off and she was absolutely stuffed with ammunition and bombs. Which made a passenger liner a target. The torpedo didn't do much damage. At the time of the event Churchill was in charge of admiralty he gave those orders to sent her on that route.
Are you referring to the Telegraph? That was already an old technology by then
I am just amazed how far technology was back then.

How Did You Make This Video
A lot of work, lol!
The Creature From Jekyll Island, chapter 12 Sink the Lusitania !
The real question is, why would you take a cruise ship into a warzone with submarines active in the area?
The official story is that Cunard didn't think the Germans would attack a passenger ship. That said, during wartime all ships belong to the British Admiralty and can to be used to aid the war effort, and Lucitania was forced to transport munitions. Cunard also thought there would be British destroyers protecting Lusitania in the warzone, common practice at the time, but strangely it never happened.

How was this video longer than the actual sinking of the Lusitania?
A lot to talk about, I suppose.
🛵 Under these shipwreck videos, why do so many find the length of them relevant ?
As bad as it was to lose so many people, I dont see it as a war crime nor do I blame the Germans for torpedoing it. I blame the British government *ONLY* because the British put the civilians in harm's way by knowingly putting ammunition in it and trying to sneak it across the ocean.
But it is still a war crime to sink a passenger liner
